That reminds me.

Got sick of having to tell people on IRC not to read the rest of the
page, and made a different page with only the XO-1 installation
section on it:

I sent Diego a link [1] to the latest OLPC release for the XO-1, In case
he gets tired of dogfooding development images for us.

Though I hope he doesn't give up so easily: parents who are also Linux
engineers make very valuable testers.

Announcing Q4D15 for XO-1.75

2012-05-24 Thread James Cameron
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OLPC_Firmware_q4d14

- add new .os command for identifying installed build; it displays the
file /boot/olpc_build without having to start the operating system,
  useful for managing test laptops,

(XO-1 and XO-1.5 will get this command in future releases).

- remove support for USB serial adapter keyboard input, in order to
avoid boot failure if a USB serial adapter or PL2303 based USB GPS
is attached; previously the boot may hang (#11871) or repeating
keyboard interrupt messages may appear (#11887),

(XO-1 and XO-1.5 already ignore such devices)

Ok, so there's a bug or error in there somewhere. Sounds worth
pursuing but perhaps not high pri -- we do have some burning topics at
this time.

Can you file it in dev.laptop.org, with a bit more fleshing out?

I assume fallback works correctly when en_GB is there, have you tested
this recently?

thanks!

There doesn't seem to have been an upstream ticket filed, so I doubt
anyone upstream has looked into it. If I am properly parsing the
thread, it seems that the fallback is broken when there are multiple
fallbacks: the intermediate language is not picked up?

Sugar allegedly supports fallbacks, but they are not working properly
for us right now:

https://dev.laptop.org.au/issues/999

Our fallback for now is to use en_GB as the primary language.

Yes, which admittedly makes this discussion redundant for those who
use our builds.

I am only really asking because you have gone to the trouble (thanks!)
of including en_AU, which in its current state is only useful if
there's an en_GB fallback. This actually makes sense, since en_AU and
en_GB are probably 99% identical.

On behalf of the kids that I test with ...

I'd prefer that we not include en_AU at all if we can't also include
en_GB, but I don't know if we have the ability to configure fallbacks
in Sugar. If we can't configure fallbacks, we should exclude en_AU
and languages for which a specified fallback is necessary.

How are you measuring the loss?

Just looking at the Sugar battery monitor in 2 XO-1s running 21011o0 and os880
(but this one with FW updated to q2f08)

What happens if the battery is not installed in an XO?

Actually, it does NOT discharge when off the XOs !

I guess I should get some power logs.
Anything else?

So now that you know its not the battery what are the symptoms?
You turn off the XO at night and then in the morning the battery is
12% less?

Hi,
I'm testing in my XO 1.0 the build 12.1 (Sugar 0.96.1)
I connect a pendrive and it is mounted on: /run/media/olpc
Why?
It's a new mechanism for Fedora 17?

Ouch. Well, we knew that 12.1 was not going to be recommended for deployments :)

You may want to help Diego load something more stable now that this
