When testing the XO hardware, users are frequently tripping up on the
lid switches test.
Right now, the text on the screen says this:
Testing /switches
Activate lid switch
This is where our users get stumped: "what is a lid switch?" If they
work out that they need to close the lid, when
Now that the XO-4 was featured at CES, is it ok to post teardown
photos? Is anyone else planning to do this?

Hi Christoph,
Just to complete. I've got a problem 2 years ago with a camera on my XO.
I've documented the problem and the solution (unstick it and replace it) in
a blog post here:

Hope it could help.
Lionel.
Please try with latest firmware Q7B14?

If it still happens, I'd like to investigate further.

Reflashing to 31027o4 from the same USB stick works well on a XO-4
with 4 dots, but not on this one with 7 dots and a clear light guide.
I get a short read of zdata file.
Suggestions?

Hi again,
this may sound like a stupid question but how would one go about swapping
out the camera modules?
I couldn't find any instructions on the wiki on how to actually remove the
motherboard from the chassis (probably one of the few things I have never
done on an XO so far). That step seems n
Hi everyone,
apologies about the confusion wrt to my "it's easier comment". The main
reason why I said that is because USB flash drives are popular and in short
supply at the library and so I thought just doing a straight-forward
copying on the laptop would be easier for me.
Anyway, since I arriv
Thanks, Daniel, that did the trick!

Hi,
Another XO-4 only build for 13.1.0, as there have only been
XO-4-related changes since build 27:
http://download.laptop.org/xo-4/os/candidate/13.1.0-28/
This includes an accelerated graphics driver, thanks to Jon Nettleton.
It should fix at least:

Hi, everyone
I have an XO-4 B1 with os27, QB711 and ec 0.3.04.
It won't upgrade the OFW, EC firmware or touchscreen firmware.
I've connected a serial adapter and this is the output I get every time:

James, Gary, Wad,
thanks a lot for all your input and the information.
We now checked all the XOs which showed these camera problems and all the
connections seem to have been fine. So I assume that what we're seeing is
really the cable failure which Wad mentioned. Unfortunately my Internet
