Re: 13.1.0 build 36 released for XO-4

2013-03-08 Thread Samuel Greenfeld
Write can collaborate with os36, although it looks like you might be able
to share things from the sharing XO-4 and not get data back from joining
XOs.

Distance when shared over ad-hoc works as well as Chat and Maze through a
schoolserver. The distances shown look like they might be close to
correct. When registered to a schoolserver Browse logs into Moodle as
expected.

A secured 1.2 GHz C1 XO-4 can activate itself over wifi from a XS with a
delegated lease as well as get updates when "olpc-update-query" is manually
run after schoolserver registration.

While two activities can play audio at the same time, this does not mean
that you can play music in one and record it in Record. Some activities
(like TamTam) may try to quiet themselves shortly after you switch focus
away from them.

Wifi (WMM or similar) power saving is turned off, so the wifi LED will not
flash while associated to an AP which supports doing this at this time.
Aggressive suspending while the laptop is off is also turned off.

There still are some video driver issues like the corrupted cursor upon a
full lid-close-using suspend & resume cycle.

13.1.0 build 36 released for XO-4

2013-03-08 Thread Daniel Drake
Hi,

Here's an XO-4 build with some new fixes.

http://download.laptop.org/xo-4/os/candidate/13.1.0-36/

Changes are:

Write-87 fixes collaboration (SL#4436)

Simultaneous audio recording/playback should be working now (#12606).
The Distance activity is working.

Wireless 8787 power saving is disabled, matching 8686. Solves some
unreliability issues with collaboration.

Automatic power management is temporarily disabled by default. We are
still battling some stability issues with suspend/resume and wakeups.

Thanks for testing!

Re: VIDEO testing on XO 1.75

2013-03-08 Thread tkkang

Thanks for the instruction and I am getting good quality video playback on the
XO 1.75 now! Work on 12.1.0 and 13.1.0 loaded XO 1.75.
After seeing how well whaawmp work I won't even bother to play with the JukeBox
or Browser as performance is very inconsistent.

Is there a way to make a selection whaawmp when I right clik on a video file.
Nice if there is a whaawmp launcher via the Sugar interface without need for
command line!

Have a great weekend. Hope the licensing stuff can be work out and I hope HK is
in the +ve side!

Your last day! Yes everything is hardwork and team work but the joy is things
do happen. Yes I am in HK but this year will spent more time in Australia.
Incubating the idea of a Learning conference
somewhere where things are cheaper and close to HK, Singapre, Thailand, etc ..
(hint: Malacca, Malaysia). Participants then fly off for holiday of their
choice!

Like your writeup on the behind the scene of the making of the XO4. Hope to get
my fingers on it soon to create a new level of excitment here!

G'Day mate!

gstreamer-plugins-marvell-0.10-3.olpc.armv7hl.rpm

Now able to see videos on Youtube at 360p setting. Not smooth.
Tested some *.ogv with Jukebox with some small size files. Better now
with ocassional stop.
When the *.OGV is large I have not been able to run it.

At least some improvement. What else I need to run to optimise video
playback?

What are you using to play your ogv and youtube videos? I never had much
luck with jukebox or with browse. Whaawmp works well.

Can you share an example ogv video that you are having trouble with?

If you use youtube-dl you can get the video files youtube serves, but
the version of youtube-dl in f17 doesn't work anymore so you'll have to
download the latest version.

$ wget http://youtube-dl.org/downloads/2013.02.25/youtube-dl
$ chmod +x youtube-dl

$ ./youtube-dl -f 22 ahv_1IS7SiE
$ whaawmp ahv_1IS7Sie.mp4

The above will download the 720p mp4 version of the video from youtube
(in this case 120MB or so) and play it with whaawmp. My XO-1.75 running

You can get the 360p version (36MB) with the following command:

$ ./youtube-dl -f 18 ahv_1IS7SiE
