I'm looking at the OMPI svn mirror on github and there don't appear to be any
release tags for v1.8.x; the most recent appears to be v1.7.2. Are there any
plans to add tags for any more releases?

FWIW, Gilles has singed the OMPI IP agreement, has demonstrated care and
knowledge of the OMPI code base, and is an OMPI SVN committer now.
Just be aware that Gilles is about 12 hours off from North America.
