Hello,
the introduction of specification items and generator tools has some
benefits. However, it makes things more complex. You also need to know
how things are connected. Instead of having a single hand written
content which you can immediately edit to do a modification, have to
know about specification items, the existence of generator tools and
which files are generated (e.g. documentation source files and header
files) to change something.
I think we should address this with a howto. For the new build system I
added a howto section to the documentation (8.6 Howtos):
https://ftp.rtems.org/pub/rtems/people/sebh/eng.pdf
We should add a general howto chapter to the RTEMS Software Engineering
manual, which contains sections, e.g. one for the build system, for the
application configuration, etc.
New howto topics could be:
Add a glossary term
Add a glossary acronym
Add an application configuration group
Add an application configuration option
Regroup application configuration options
