Setting Xcursor theme in ~/.Xdefaults Xcursor.theme: redglass doesn't
seem to work anymore.
What is the proper way to set mouse color?

That still seem to work for me. Are you explicitly loading .Xdefaults
or overriding that resource anywhere?
