This command does not replace `dnf system-upgrade`, but it will reveal
potential problems.

You may also run `dnf upgrade` before running this command.

The `--assumeno` will just test the transaction, but does not make the
actual upgrade.

In case you hit dependency issues, please report it against the
appropriate package.

Or against fedora-obsolete-packages if that package should be removed
in next Fedora. Please check existing reports against
fedora-obsolete-packages first:

https://red.ht/2kuBDPu

and also there is lots of "Fails to install" (F44FailsToInstall) reports:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?bug_id=2384425&bug_id_type=anddependson&bug_status=__open__&columnlist=product%2Ccomponent%2Cassigned_to%2Cbug_status%2Cshort_desc%2Cchangeddate%2Cbug_severity&order=id%2C%20&query_format=advanced

For convenience here is the relevant part of Fedora Guidelines on
renaming and replacing packages:

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/#renaming-or-replacing-existing-packages

I myself discovered lots of issues. But after running
`remove-retired-packages` **before** running the `dnf distro-sync` it
boils down to these three:

Problem 1: installed package ant-openjdk21-1.10.15-32.fc43.noarch
requires java-21-openjdk-headless, but none of the providers can be
installed
 - java-21-openjdk-headless-1:21.0.10.0.7-2.fc43.x86_64 does not
belong to a distupgrade repository

 - problem with installed package
Problem 2: installed package kdelibs-webkit-6:4.14.38-49.fc43.x86_64
requires kdelibs(x86-64) = 6:4.14.38-49.fc43, but none of the
providers can be installed
 - kdelibs-6:4.14.38-49.fc43.x86_64 does not belong to a distupgrade
repository

 - problem with installed package
Problem 3: cannot install both ldc-libs-1:1.41.0-3.fc44.x86_64 from
fedora and ldc-libs-1:1.42.0-2.fc44.x86_64 from updates-testing
 - package glibd-2.4.3-7.fc44.x86_64 from fedora requires
libdruntime-ldc-shared.so.111()(64bit), but none of the providers can
be installed
 - package glibd-2.4.3-7.fc44.x86_64 from fedora requires
libphobos2-ldc-shared.so.111()(64bit), but none of the providers can

 - cannot install the best update candidate for package
ldc-libs-1:1.40.0-3.fc42.x86_64
 - cannot install the best update candidate for package
glibd-2.4.3-4.fc42.x86_64

You can try to add to command line:

I will open 3 issues in BZ for each specific component.

Thank you

Miroslav

Fedora 44 Beta will be released on March 10, so links not being

In the past, I was able to test betas / produce bug reports when the isos were
made available I tested  Gnome,  KDE and Cosmic doing fresh installs.
The link(s)  were not available to me this time.
BTW, I am testing Rawhide right now, as Fed44 beta links do not appear

Nope. That *can* upgrade system despite some problems. But we want to reveal these problems. And if allowerasing is
going to remove something we want to remove it via Obsoletes or fedora-obsolete-packages.

replace "updates-testing" with '*-testing' and

Good point. That would include rpmfusion too.

"en" with "en_US.UTF-8" :

Good point.

You can try to add to command line:
--no-best to not limit the transaction to the best candidates
  --skip-broken to skip uninstallable packages

none of the standard packages appear to have an issue.

Re: Donate 1 minute of your time to test upgrades from F43 to F44

2026-03-07 Thread Artur Frenszek-Iwicki
Upgraded to F44 yesterday evening.

Had some minor issues the first time I tried upgrading, but after adding
"--enablerepo=*-testing" to the dnf command everything went fine,
so it was just a matter of some updates not making it to stable yet.

Cheers,
Artur FI

Do you want to make Fedora 44 better? Please spend 1 minute of your time

Thanks for reminding about it.

Checked on my local system and it looks like I will have to rebuild
FreeCAD and wait for rebuilt Prusa-Slicer (bug exists already).
