With the exception of wake-on-multicast for salut collaboration, there have been no coordinated improvements in that area so I'm surprised if you notice anything. Good news anyhow. When this has been discussed before the answer has been no. Any deployment is going to want to save power even when on AC because of the electricity bill (remember we aren't just talking 1 laptop). And moreso because the laptop can't detect AC vs another power source. I don't see any new arguments this time around. Nevertheless I think you can configure this in the powerd config. Tried it on the XO-1. os3 on the XO-1 boots 15 sec faster than the XO-1.5 running os353! Power management on the XO-1 is the best in a long time. Only the wakeup flicker gives it away. I do not know if it is my lucky day but the XO-1 (CL2) touchpad also feels considerably less jumpy, particularly when it runs with a swap partition (on an SDcard) which BTW is almost mandatory for adequate use. Activities-wise as mentioned tam-tam and record do not work on the XO-1 too but terminal fonts are fine. No issues on GNOME other than Squeak that fails to launch because can not find the image (a problem with all F11/F14 builds in GNOME) Overall a very nice and promising build. The only issue is its size. Just the build with added audio/video codecs leaves ~220Mb free space and that's without wiki or library bundles. Maybe F14 XO-1 builds could be build as (2-4GB) SDcard images. NAND could be used for home and swap (or the other way around) ___ Devel mailing list Devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel

The charging light does not necessarily indicate that there is external power to charge the battery and run the laptop at the same time purely from an external power source. XO's do not presume that the external power source is an AC adapter, allowing a wide range of input tolerances before you damage the computer. that's fine for the default, but there should be some way to tell the system that when I plug it in to external power, that can be considered AC and disable automatic power management. the dim, blank, and sleep timers can all be set separately for the externally powered case, and set to 0 to disable them completely. by default they're set the same for both battery and external power. the one setting that's different in the default config is that on battery, they system will eventually shut down on its own. on external power, it will not. (btw -- that last setting (when to shut down when sleeping) is set to just 1 hour. since the 1.5 can stay asleep for several days before the battery goes, one hour is probably a bit aggressive. paul David Lang There is a somewhat stale wiki page at http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Battery_and_power with a lot of user comments about what happens if you try to charge an XO via various alternative means. --- SJG ___ Devel mailing list Devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel ___ Devel mailing list Devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel =- paul fox, p...@laptop.org ___ Devel mailing list Devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel

I've tested on an XO-1.5. Here are a few quick bug reports from my first 20 minutes of usage: == OS == * Despite the initrd optimization and ext4, boot time the same of before: 30 seconds (36 seconds on the first boot, due to ssh keys) * Graphics seem a lot more fluid on the XO-1.5. Not sure why, I like it. * AC plug/unplug events don't have any effect on the battery frame icon. * Automatic power management seem to have improved a lot and is almost unnoticeable. However, can't we disable it while the laptop is on AC? == Sugar == * The spiral view gives an initial impression of using something completely new, yet familiar. * Spurious password prompts at boot. This has been broken in 0.90 for a couple of months now. Is anyone working on this bug? * This is not a regression, but I just noticed that there's no way to connect to a hidden network from Sugar. A possible workaround is connecting from Gnome and then switching back to Sugar. * The Read activity shouldn't appear in the favorite view. == Activities == * The Record UI is still broken (tsk tsk :-). Seriously, is anyone working on the UI rewrite? * The Wikipedia activity fails to start. I think it also failed in Dextrose, until we merged a small backwards compatibility fix in sugar-toolkit. * TamTamMini, TamTamEdit and TamTamSynth fail to start * The Help activity is pretty outdated, not localized and generally not very useful. It also asks to save to the journal on exit. I would recommend removing it until someone improves it. * The cursor in Write stops flashing after 2-3 seconds. It does not seem to be related with automatic PM. * Browse has the 0x0 buttons problem. We fixed it in Dextrose by disabling sugar-settings-manager. We also tried to fix the actual bug in our XSETTINGS implementation (ask jasg for details). * Text in the Terminal is too big. We have a hack to fix this in Dextrose which consists in dropping a configuration file in ~/.sugar/default/terminalrc at build time. My overall impression of F14-S0.90 is very positive. I'm sure it won't take too long before it surpasses the F11 builds in terms of usability and stability.
