Indeed, does the desktop look correctly when switching modes with ctrl-alt-{+,-} or xvidtune? Didn't know about those keypresses or xvidtune testing them definitely exhibits the same type of display as TuxRacer. Screen looks like the width or the framebuffer pitch is messed up. -Chris

of 600x800, which is what I would expect. If I then switch to XF 4.3, start the server, run xwininfo, click on the desktop, it reports a window size of 800x600. recently; essentially, the init.d/xfs script was being run, but no xfs got started and there was no clue in the logs about what was failing. Then I realized that my root filesystem was full. After I cleaned up some space and rebooted, everything worked fine. Silly, but true... Chris Burghart
