code call back to the backend code to get things like hibernate and
suspend commands, swap details, etc.?

DeviceKit repository. I have hal access, but I guess I need DK-p access

How will upower change in terms of portability? I hate to think all of
the backend work I did for FreeBSD needs to be redone again.
