After speaking with the i18n gurus who wrote the software which runs the
translation server, they suggest to put comments into file. I think this is
about as good as we can do at this point. We could at least try and point

Thanks Kader,
PERHAPS it could be useful to prefix each basic English string with the
module/app, though that does kind of "pollute" the string. Probably someone

translation server is to 'locate' the string in its 'context' in order to
be able to translate it accurately. Is there not a way, Jason, to locate
the strings to translate in the user interface? Or to group them by menu ?

Good point, let me clarify about Google and Yandex Translate. Sometimes,
these services get things right. It also gets a lot of stuff very wrong,
but it may be useful for translators. If they find it useful, they can use

Thanks for this detailed explanation Jason,
Just as a general remark, I think it is lucky that the apps that have been
moved are mainly backend configuration stuff and not end-user apps, thus
the audience affected is magnitudes smaller. On the other hand, because
these are core apps affecting the
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Part of the challenge we have at the moment, is that there are very large
scale changes to the core application. A lot of the functionality which was
part of different modules has been moved to apps. We would like to try and
preserve as many translated phrases as

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the feedback. I realize this may have been a bit of a
bizarre question, but we just wanted to confirm the need for this. I think
we knew the answer before, but sometimes its good just to be sure.
Part of the reason I was asking is because the development team is going
Hi Jason
Yes, even we are using the French interface extensively in few countries.
In fact, a few days back, we also raised the issue we are facing with
DHIS2's limitation to translate the actual program name on the data entry
screen on the Event Capture module. Lars said that it will be done

Hi there DHIS2 users.
Is anyone out there actively using DHIS2 with the French or Spanish user
interface? We are just cleaning up some of the translations and would like
to know if there are users of DHIS2 in French or Spanish.
Regards,
Jason
