Hi Randy

I am not sure who is responsible for maintaining that portal demo, but
perhaps one of the reasons it has fallen into disrepair is that this is
really not a good example to follow.  If you look at the page source you
will notice that the credentials to access the objects (admin:district) in
this case are in plain view.  You couldn't really do it like this for a for
a production server.  There have been cases where people have slavishly
followed this example and created serious vulnerabilities in some very
large dhis2 implementations.

I am not sure what would be the best approach if you did want to do this.
I suspect the correct thing to do would be to make use of special location
blocks in the web proxy server to expose particular items (charts, maps,
etc) without authentication.  That of course could be a little trickier to
setup and maybe explains why it  hasn't been done yet in the demo.

Hi Lars,
I think like the DHIS2 is a system that needs to be deployed on a large
scale, the choice to keep postgresql is ideal. In its recent version
Postgresql becomes more flexible when there is a lot of data. It becomes
very close to Oracle. the possibility of using the Json and its highly
developed GIS module is a major asset. I'm ok to keep Postgresql as DHIS2
DBMS.

Hi Lars and community,
Even though we use MySQL and other DBMS for other projects, I think it's
best for DHIS2 to use and explicitly specify in the documentation that the
only supported DBMS is PostgreSQL.
At the beginning of our project we lost a lot of time testing DHIS 2 with
MySQL, only to discover that some of the problems we had were related to
the use of MySQL, which then resolved, starting to use PostgreSQL.
In my opinion, it is better to support a single DBMS that is well tested
and has all the necessary features (GIS etc.).

Hi Lars,
Make a lot of sense, and would free time in your team to provide more value
(seems you are not lacking ideas). I would say go for it, with maybe
dedicated documentation about how to move (even if it's basically using the
import/export feature "as is", may be worth a couple of hours to write a
step by step guide).

Which browser are you using to open data entry?

Try to update to latest version (chrome or firefox), clean cache. Firefox
usually take long time to load organisation unit tree.

Hi Omer,

I do not think this is going to work at all. What are the data elements in
the second row?  Are these dynamically generated as well?

As noted in a previous mail from one of your queires, this really looks
more like event data than aggregate data. For aggregate data you can only
have a single value for a given organisationunit/period/data
element/category combination at a time. So whatever is in that next row
would need to use another dimension, like the category  combination. So,
you would need something like "ACT AS + SP" as your data element, and it
would need to be disaggregated by "Page 1" and "Page 2". If this is dynamic
however, you would need to already have these category option combos
generated as metadata and then you could add them to your data entry form I
guess.

But, it simply does not look like aggregate data to me, since you could
have any number of pages I guess?

Not sure if this is still the case, but with older versions of DHIS2,
selecting more than one orgunit would cause a lot of issues. I realise it
is not easy to unselect when you cannot even see the tree, you could
rectify this directly in the db. But before that, see if you have any
errors in your browser console.

Hello Omer,

You can use the Tabular Tracker Capture module to achieve this, provided
that you are collecting event rather than aggregate data (which seems to be
the case).

The module was designed by PSI in order to achieve exactly this type of
row-based data entry, as it allows you to replicate a line register format
in DHIS2 for the purpose of data entry. The "Add Event" button in the
screenshot below is the equivalent of your + button.

The third option would be to remove the offending coordinates from the GML
file you used to import in the first place and import again. I think that
should overwrite what is currently there, e.g. put an empty string for Nairobi
North. Please let me copy this to the user list in case others have a
better idea.

I confirmed the issue had to do with some missing components/dependencies
from some metadata that we're left our during export.I did a fresh
export/import and all is working perfect now.

and suspect I may have erroneously excluded a few category and data element

I actually thought about it after sending the initial email. If the same user 
can see the data in data set reports, there really shouldn’t be a reason not to 
see the data in pivot tables unless there are parameters you have added in 
pivot tables which weren’t in the data set report. 

Can you shed some light on what kind of table you are trying to create? 
Indicators, data elements, category dimension, org unit group dimension etc

Go to Apps -> Users. Select the user that is having problems visualising data 
in analytics. Edit the User.  Scroll down and select “Show more options”. 

You should see a section title “Available dimension restrictions for data 
analytics” (see attached). Check that there are no dimensions selected by 
mistake. If there are selected dimensions, try deselecting these from the user 
account and save. Run analytics to check  if  this resolves the problem.

If it doesn’t then it is possible that you may have other sharing protocols for 
the data you want to view.

there may be different definitions of what an "Epi Week" actually is.

It is therefore that DHIS2 has adopted the ISO standard definition, which
can be determined with precision, due to the rigor of its definition.

In your case, is you requirement that your week begins on Sunday instead of
Monday, with the first week being determined by the "The first epi week of
the year ends, by definition, on the first Saturday of January, as long as
it falls at least four days into the month"?

A question to the developers...would it be possible to support a "user
defined period type", which would require that users create their own
start/enddates? I realize that this would create problems for the offline
features of DHIS2, but this requirement, along with similar ones in
countries which do not use the Gregorian calendar, point to the need for
something more flexible than what we currently have.

I am not able to reproduce that behavior.

What might have confused you is that when you send an initial message to
lots of users, and they reply, the reply goes to all original recipients
throughout the conversation. This behavior is desired in some cases, for
instance when someone reports a problem and you want everyone to receive
the explanation in order to avoid repeating yourself later.

But I guess it can also be inconvenient for instance when sending SMS is
enabled, which I suspect is your use-case. We can think of how to make this
more controlled.

I 2.13 we are displaying message
recipientsin
the read message screen to make it clearer.

and it works fine, but even in incognito mode the problems continues in the 
instance I’m using.  Thankfully Bob Jolliffe is here so we may find some time 
to troubleshoot further.

I saw this a while back, but think it was either a bug or related to the
upgrade (which required a clearing of the browser cache). Did you try on
incognito mode of Chrome and see if the same thing happens?

Also, I assume that the "one" indicator type is set to "Number"?

I'm running it fine on OS X (Mountain Lion), following the procedures for 
Ubuntu. As I recall, there may have been one or two directories in different 
places than on Linux, but I found them and adapted. If you try the same and are 
having trouble at any step, let me know the specifics and I'll be glad to help. 
(I can tell you where things ended up on my system.)

Jason is here in Honiara and we have just moved the installation to a cloud
server.  Jason installed the new version this morning and we have been
impressed with the speed of reports... large improvement!

you can actually have combo boxes, by defining Option Sets (Data Administration 
=> Option Set) and choosing option set when creating the data element. 

By the way, I just learnt that Uganda is also adding a child death form as 
well, not just maternal death.

Another way of doing it (albeit with limitations) is through the data
browser. For instance,

Organisation Unit   2012W10 2012W11 2012W12
ce Central Province 289 289  221
co Copperbelt Province  0   0 0


This provides a count of the number of data elements which have been
submitted by province. From this picture, we can see that no data has
been submitted by Central Province for Weeks 10,11, and 12.
It looks like some data is missing from W12 from Central province,
because the number is lower. This is a quick and easy way to get a
feeling where there is data, and where there is not data, but a custom
report is probably a much better way to go.

"Moyamba district is lacking PHUF1 for January from 6 facilities". In 
Sierra Leone we stressed that checking the completeness in DHIS2 was 
part of the district responsibilities.

I'm having serious problems getting the orgunit hierarchy and GIS modules to 
work in 2.5.  I downloaded the war file and replaced the DHIS folder in apache. 
 Is there something I missed?  Should I have converted the data first?  
Previous working platform was 2.4.

Is anyone else having the same issue?

DHIS 2 version 2.5 is released. We have a range of new modules and functions 
for you (demo login is admin/district):

- New Data Visualizer module: A module for generating dynamic data analysis and 
visualization. You can select freely from indicators, data elements, (relative) 
periods and organisation units as chart dimensions. Data can be visualized as 
column, bar, stacked column, stacked bar, line, area and pie chart. Which 
dimensions to use as series, categories and filter can be selected at any time. 
We have tried to make it very easy-to-use and you will never encounter cryptic 
user feedback. This strengthens the possibility for DHIS users to create ad-hoc 
analysis.

At the moment this module deliberately offers a minimum set of features. We 
encourage you to provide suggestions and comments for future development. More 
on this in a later mail.

- New web mobile module: Web based interface for low-end mobile devices. This 
module benefits from the general advantages of web deployments: Easy meta-data 
maintenance. No client version to manage. Additionally it increases the 
opportunity to use existing mobile devices. It contains functionality for data 
entry in addition to charts, reports and documents from the user's dashboard.

- Single-event data management: Functionality for capturing single-event data 
for events such as births, deaths and referrals. The beneficiary registration 
is moved to case-based data entry module. Programs can now be defined as 
single-event based. After registering a beneficiary one can directly enter data 
for such single-event based "programs". This is in fact a simpler use-case than 
the program-based data which is already supported.

- Meta-data attributes: Arbitrary attributes can now be added to data elements, 
indicators, organisation units and users. This comes in handy when making data 
dictionaries, when additional info is required for users and so on. Attributes 
can be added in data administration module and will become visible in the 
respective add and update screens for each object. In addition, all group sets 
which are marked as compulsory will appear as a drop-down list (where the 
groups are options).

- Email notifications of messages: Messages which are sent in the DHIS internal 
messaging systems can now also be delivered to the email address of the user 
recipients. Email SMTP settings are configurable in settings module (system

- Improved data statistics: Data statistics (under data administration module) 
now displays the number of unique user being logged in and data records entered

Hi Jason,

Sorry for getting back a bit late on this; got caught up with some office work.

It seems I'm in much more trouble than I initially thought.
After clearing my browser cache as instructed, I tried again and still there 
was no success. I then decided opening the database using previous versions of 
DHIS2 (which luckily for me I keep in my archives for sometime before 
discarding).
To my surprise, DHIS2 version 2.3 also behaved the same way - the data entry 
forms and the dataelements/indicators selection box came up empty.
But with DHIS2 version 2.2, the data entry forms and the 
dataelements/indicators selection box open and populated as expected.

I have attached the screenshots and the corresponding server logs from both 
versions 2.2 and 2.4. I included the version of Chrome I'm using on screenshot 
2.
My BP has started going up :) and so any help to resolve this would be really 
appreciated.

platform.

Hi John,

Just to be sure, please try the following:

1.  clear cache through Tools->Clear Recent History
2.  delete local-storage through Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Network
and clear offline storage from there.

If the problem still persists, please try this to REALLY clean your
cache:

1) Clear all history (click all the checkboxes)
2) Go into options, and click the privacy tab
3) Change to "Use custom settings for history"
4) Choose clear history when firefox closes
5) Go into settings for this.. and click all the checkboxes
6) Close the browser
7) When it now starts, everything should be cleared

Hi John,
I am running 2.4 and have no issues with the custom data entry form
modules, including editing of forms which were created in previous
versions.
What browser are you using? Be sure you are using the absolute latest
version of Firefox or Chrome.

If this does not work, please post some logs and this might help to
diagnose what is happening.

I would like to draw your attention to the Data Entry Form Management Module. 
The module seems broken in DHIS2 version 2.4.

When you click on the 'Design data entry form' button on the Dataset management

you see the following:

1. The existing data entry form does not appear.

Thanks for the new release.
What may be missing are the icons for adding in the features names of displays 
on the map e.g. specific District name, facility name, county name etc,(not all 
names)

- GIS: Relocate facilities on the map. Click on a facility, select "relocate"

Satellite map this is a viable alternative to GPS-based positioning of 
facilities.




- GIS: New symbol layer. Visualize location and distribution of facilities 
based on its type - each type can be assigned an icon.

attributes and values for a configurable group of "infrastructural" data 
elements.

- General performance improvements: Most database operations in the systems are 
now cached with both improves speed of navigation and moves load from the 
database into memory - which is easier to scale when required. Most lists in 
the system are either paged or loaded asynchronously which improves the 
perceived performance and usability - you can start working on the forms 
without waiting for long lists to load completely. Data mart processing time 
down 65 %.




- Charts: Data elements can be used in charts. You can also choose between 
indicators, periods, and organisation units in charts. Charts can have target 
line.

for decentralization of user management.

- For the technically interested: Hibernate upgraded to 1.6, Jquery upgraded to 
1.6.1, CKEditor 3.5, CalculatedDataElement and Source object removed, 
minimalistic skin, Google API skin no longer required.
