Phil:

I have been using Skype and other open source communications tools for
calls with our partners in the Telecenters of the Americas Partnership,
where CTCNet has joined with the Somos Telecentros network in Latin America
and the Caribbean, the Pacific Community Networks Association in Canada,
the Chasquinet Foundation in Ecuador and the ASPIRA Association in
Washington, DC and Puerto Rico. We've had calls with multiple connections
from thyree continents and have found the quality to be very good and the
price is perfect - we would absolutely not be able to maintain as much
voice contact as we have without Skype -- in fact it's much more convenient
than the telephone and the chat feature adds a lot to the communication.

Subject: [DDN] reporter's query on the use of skype

hi everyone -

yesterday i received a query from a reporter interested in writing an
article about the uses of skype. here's the query:

A newspaper reporter is looking to do a story about community groups
that
have used skype and similar such technology to allow immigrants to call
home for free (or at rates far cheaper than previously possible).
Additionally, if there are non-profits which previously paid high phone
rates to keep in touch with their institutional partners abroad but are now
calling for free using p2p technology, this reporter would also like to
hear about it. Ideally, the reporter would like to find immigrant groups or
non-profit organizations in NY city, but this is not requisite. Any and all
leads welcome.

if you have some stories to share on this topic, thanks for briefly
describing them in an email to me. i'll forward them on to the
reporter.

              - phil
