[digitalradio] Newb digital mode guy with Newb questions

2009-03-10 Thread doug_helbling
Greetings, all. I'm a rather new ham and very recent General class licensee who is very interested in digitial modes. I've acquired a RiggBlaster, fabricated a second computer-to-tranceiver control interface (home brew version of CT17 from N9ZLE) and have got Simon Brown's HRD and DM780

Hello Doug, Anyone have suggestions for other sources? for about Ham modes, you have this address (for each mode: description, display on the waterfall, and how it sounds): http://f1ult.free.fr/DIGIMODES/MULTIPSK/digimodesF6CTE_en 73 Patrick - Original Message - From:

-Welcome Doug, it will eventually get easy to recognize most common digital modes, by eyesight. Lets start with the basics... If the signal is in USB mode and around 7070, 14070, 10140, 21070 and 28120 it is almost certainly PSK31. Park on 14070 or 10140 USB during the day, turn on the

A bit more on this topic Doug. Sticking around 7035, 7070, 10140, and 14070 USB to begin with, you should not need to tune around with the rig's dial. The waterfall should do the trick for you. Click on a digital signal, on those frequencies it is almost certain to be PSK31. Choose a

Hello, Doug. I have to keep stealth dipoles up as well, and I find that two regular Slinkies, with a 1:1 current balun in the middle on the ceiling of my second-floor shack tune up very well on 40, 30, 20 and 10 meters. I'm sure I'm just warming the clouds, but have made contacts on PSK31 over

[digitalradio] New modes or old modes?

If you could experiment with a mode for the first time, would you rather try a new mode like Thor, or an old-school mode like CROWD or Piccolo? I've been thinking about fiddling with FFT and programming, and have thought about bringing some of the original digital modes used by various diplomatic

Truthfully, Christian, my goal is to find the modes that work the best under different conditions. There are not that many. The most common mode of PSK31 is not that good really, although is very narrow and easy to tune and use. But it is not very robust. RTTY is not the best for robustness
