If you want to have consistent successful
digital mode contacts of any reasonable distance you have to run a full size
antenna, either a 1/2 wave dipole or 1/4 wave vertical. Night time D layer
absorption on 160 meters is very unforgiving when using an 80 meter G5RV into a
tuner or 80
