Lyn,

You can look at CocoaModem for PSK31. As a Mac user I'm sure you are
aware of VirtualPC to simulate Windows. If you wait a little while you
can get an Intel chip powered Mac and use the extremely easy,
virtually virus, free Mac OS for some needs and boot into Windows XP
to run ham software.

Clearly People will develope to reach the largest audience. It's a
little unfortunate that they can't get together with a Mac programmer.
If their PC application is written in VisualBasic, RealBasic for the
Mac has a converter that might be able to use most the internal
routines and just take a little tweaking of interface. If the routines
were written in C, - at least at one time - you could pretty much port
the C routines over directly and again, work on the interface.

Now that Apple is touting Universal Binary for compatibilty, the
development software choices is limited to...well just Apple's
software I guess. Problem is, the price of development software puts
it outside the finances of the hobbiest.

I just bought a $50-$75 small form factor (thick pizza box style)
Compaq Pentium II/III on an auction site - just for Ham software. I
can close my eyes or leave the room as XP or Win98SE boots up, then
forget about the OS and run all the Ham software I want.

I'm careful to only do web seaches - until I trust the site - and
recieve email via the Mac. The PC only ventures from running ham
software to check for software updates for that software or post to a
newsgroup. That avoids the cooties and keeps the system stable (ie, no
games, no screen savers, no nothing except ham software and the
Windows OS). Still, you'll want to learn to create a Restore point
before any install.

Paul
