Hello Rick,
All the FEC appears to be roughly the same Viterbi encoding/decoding in
Multipsk but perhaps there are some differences?
No the Viterbi encoding of QPSK31 is smaller so a bit less powerful that the
one used for MFSK16/MFSK8/PSK63F/PSK220F, this group of modes using the same
Viterbi
Expect more Olivia in a few days, possibly some Domino modes next week.
Why - because I'll be letting my test team lose on a new DM780 kit which
already supports Throb and MFSK.

still number 1 and 2, JT65A appears to be number 3 followed by MFSK16

I pretty much agree, though I've personally seen waaay fewer Hell QSOs
than Olivia. I think Hell is fun, and I'd like to work it more.
I wonder if the lack of Olivia QSOs is due to
Andy,
To me, it is a matter of being fashionable. No matter whatever
happens, Olivia is a ROBUST mode,
and most likely, the most robust conversational mode I know. The most
robust is JT65A, but is hardly
conversational, unless you do what you suggest on a previous mail using
short phrases.
I think many are spoilt by PSK because the waterfall shows many QSO's
whereas for Olivia etc. one has to hunt and then figure out what mode one
has found.
A suggestion is to call CQ using a video id supported in fldigi and now
DM780 (guess where I stole the code from).
Another idea is for
Tagging any CQ digimode transmission with a visual CQ at the end (even
without a mode ID) will also increase responses. You can use the same
frequency-domain font code from fldigi, as it is 2 chars wide at a
minimum.

Called CQ tonight at 22:44Z on 14076.5, using Olivia 500/16.
Andy, G8RZA answered me on my first call.
Luck must be with me Now if I can just get 3B7C :-)

From my perspective, perhaps some of the reasons are:
- Some digital programs only support a few modes, but typically they are
all going to support PSK31 and RTTY
- As new modes are developed, they are invariably going to be compared
to the existing leaders and need to have some compelling
Rick, a big plus to me is FEC, I do not see that you mentioned that in
your comparisons. to me, that is a major deficiency in an otherwise
interesting report. could you supplement??
thanks

Admittedly, my comments had to be very brief since there are even more
modes and submodes. I personally find FEC to be very helpful. Some
modes, such as MFSK16 and QPSK31 include Viterbi coding as well as
Multipsk's PSK63F and PSK220F
In fact, with some testing with a nearby ham (NVIS on

Just had my 1st MFSK-16 QSO uning Simons' DM780 multi-mode digital
program and I have a
