If the optimizations only work on AMD powered PCs it will be impossible for
me to take advantage of it (to be honest I don't have or know anyone who has
an AMD based PC...)

When I read the explanation in (some) interviews, it's clear to me that
there will be general improvements on the Calc code.

No, that is not true. It is implemented with the OpenCl standard, so
everyone has a benefit :) -- AMD's APUs

After some digging I found this article

Apparently the optimizations are for the GPU.
Unfortunately these improvements won't work on my i5 based laptop or my i7
