Uservoice.com has an interesting system where the users have a maximum
of 10 votes which they can constantly can reallocate where they wish.
Each feature however can have 3 maximum votes per user. Taken
together, this allows the most favourite features to trickle up.

Somehow every time someone says the mouse will go on retirement I am
not convinced. It's a seriously well designed product which has

How about sticking to auto-scrolling but removing the acceleration
component. Often the acceleration is what confuses people as the
dragged items speed up too much and users lose control.
What about two fixed scroll speeds. One could have a reasonable
scroll speed assigned to the default drag
