Re: [IxDA Discuss] Tools for communicating styles to developers

2007-10-05 Thread Jim Brennsteiner
Gabriel,

I create my wireframes and mockups in Illustrator. I document style
information in a word doc (style name, description, specs, etc.)

As the style information evolves, I update the word doc. I usually
don't go back to the illustrator file unless there are major
changes.

Jim

[IxDA Discuss] Texas IxDers

I was wondering if there were any Texas IxD people on list...
specifically Austin or San Antonio. If so, do you have any IxD type
meetups?

Re: [IxDA Discuss] Target.com Loses Accessibility Law Suit

2007-10-05 Thread Alok Jain
I had a talk abotu sam thing a few years back with the director of
W3C WAI initiative, and the approach we talked about was really being
standards driven. There need to be one set of standards that both
content providers and technology creators follow (Browers, assistive
technologies etc..)

Part of the problem is that everyone wants to have their own set of
mini standards , so each browser behaves differently, each government
wants to define it's own version of accessibility laws. W3C has been
making effort to talk to technology companies as well governments to
adopt one set of standards.

If this is done, then content provider's responsibility would
typically stop at complying with standards and the rest would be
technology responsibility.

[IxDA Discuss] [Event] Reminder : Chicago IxDA - Oct. 10th - Design Pattern Libraries

2007-10-05 Thread Janna Hicks DeVylder
Hello, fellow Chicagoans.
Hope to see you next Wednesday, October 10th!
Please RSVP so we can ensure enough space:
http://www.manifestdigital.com/survey/ixda/

---

If you're in the Chicago-land area, please join us for our first
topic-oriented event!

Topic: The 'WHAT', 'WHY' and 'HOW' of design pattern libraries
No one seems to be talking about pattern libraries these days, so we thought
we'd be the first to... oh, wait.
Ok, so everyone is talking about them. But WHAT are they? WHY are they worth
our consideration? HOW do you create and utilize one (and how far do you
have to go for it to be useful)?

Presenter(s): You...and the well-stocked audience.
This is not the event where you will only hear one perspective on this
matter. You, too, will play a role as questioner, presenter, and
solution-maker. Are you in the process of solving this puzzle for yourself
or your organization, or are you wondering where to begin? Share your
point-of-view. Bring examples [digital, paper or mimed], tell stories, share
your concerns. For starters, we'll hear how the problem is being approached
by internal teams [Orbitz] and agencies [Manifest Digital]. It's certain to
be a lively discussion!

When: Wednesday, October 10th

Where: Manifest Digital
1023 W. Fulton Market
Chicago, IL 60607
[we thank them for generously hosting this month's event]

Time: 6:30 - 8:00pm
First hour will be dedicated to the topic, last thirty minutes will be
dedicated to getting to know one another and discovering what you're looking
for in a local group.

RSVP: http://www.manifestdigital.com/survey/ixda/
Let us know sooner rather than later if you are coming, as we'll need to
move locations to another Loop location if we exceed a certain size.

You should come... the local group that's met so far has been engaging
inspiring, and there's a lot to learn from each other!

Questions? Let me know.

Re: [IxDA Discuss] Introducing myself

2007-10-05 Thread Jay Rogers
Hey Matthew.

Yvonne Shek gave a really excellent presentation on Usability Coaching at the
Austin UPA conference this year (I'm based in Austin, myself).

She's part of a Toronto gourp called UX Irregulars who might be just the group
that you're looking for. I lurk on their list, and they seem really cool.

Good luck!

Subject: [IxDA Discuss] Introducing myself

Hi,

Since I just joined the list I thought I'd write a quick note to
introduce myself. I'm Matt Nish-Lapidus, an Interaction Designer from
Toronto Ontario, Canada. I've been involved in the web in various
ways since 1995 and just recently completely switched focus to web
based interaction design.

Unlike a lot of people I meet who are interested in IxD, my
professional background is in interface development/engineering and my
education is in fine art.

I'm not really a graphic designer, but I have a strong interest in
design in general. My main focus is on usability and interface design
for the web.

That's a little about my background.. I hope to learn a lot from this
community and am looking forward to getting involved.

Is there anybody else here from Toronto? Or are there any Toronto
groups that people here have heard about?

Matt.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. This helps greatly as I look at
relocating to that area. I know for one that I'd love to see the
group be more active if possible. :-)

 Russell? You there?

Our very own prolific poster Russell Wilson is in charge of the
 Austin area.

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] should work.

And for North Texans, Janet Six is arranging things in Dallas.

Both groups are pretty inactive, but heck! it doesn't need to stay
 that way.

Re: [IxDA Discuss] Distinguishing between Internal and External links

2007-10-05 Thread jae
Would it be more appropriate to let users informed where the links are
going to lead them to? In users point of view, An informative link
would appear less deceiving, if you failed to saftisfy them with the
information by internal links.
