[IxDA Discuss] Job: Website Design. Loc: NYC/ off site. CO: Ariel Partners: Recruiter/Part time / Contract / Ongoing

2008-12-09 Thread Bert Copello
Ariel Partners, an IT Consulting and Business Solutions firm in NYC is
currently seeking to engage a Designer(s) to redesign their Website and
for Design of an Application Development tool.

The initiative would not require on site work; only periodic meetings in
midtown offices to incorporate input and content from principals and
ongoing communication and coordination throughout the process. Project
will work on an hourly rate and Designer need not work full time. More
interested in overall result in a reasonable deliberate time frame as
opposed to rapid roll out.

Referrals welcomed
*
WEB DESIGNER** *

Designing for two internal projects: a website redesign and a new web
application. Web application interface should look and feel like a
cross between web 2.0 (such as facebook) and an excel spreadsheet.

Design beautiful web 2.0 high fidelity html interfaces. Ideal candidate
will be very familiar with the web 2.0 paradigm and understand what can
be done and what cannot be done, and how web 2.0 applications generally
work.

Artist should have experience with and work natively in DreamWeaver or
similar HTML -output tool. Emphasis is on aesthetics via CSS and nice
graphic images in addition to Wireframes/Design layout. AJAX or
JavaScript, not required but a helpful plus. Experience with CSS
preferred. Behavior not required. HTML hand coding not required.

Goal is to enhance look and feel with provocative design. Design the
interface for new application.

Ariel Partners is building a graphics library of high quality glossy
PhotoShop and illustrator images and archives large volumes of high
quality copy including introductions, whitepapers, and backgrounders.
Appropriate selections to be incorporated.

Requires a Web Designer capable of putting together a redesign,
assimilating library of the images and content, incorporate branding
concepts and create:

·Askin for the new site
·A set of storyboards
·Overall theme
·Identify holes, places where we are missing images, content etc.

This will be a complex lengthy effort that will require regular meetings
spaced out over a protracted period to accommodate competing priorities
and existing schedules; warranting a phased roll out approach. The
strategy would be to define overall theme and layout; then incrementally
implement aesthetic improvements to establish framework.

This would be followed by 1 or 2 subsequent phases of improvements and
extensions

The site also needs to have an iphone optimized version; automatically
redirected to iphone.arielpartners.com . So two versions of the website
are actually required

An in-house development product also needs to be developed, and a
designer is needed to provide high fidelity HTML mockups and work with
the team as the design evolves.

Interested and qualified candidates may submit resume/bio and online
portfolio url or samples for review by replying to this email or
emailing directly to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[IxDA Discuss] The career path to ixda...?

2008-07-08 Thread Bert Copello
I recently gave some advice to a young lady in NYC; interested in
pursuing a career as an Interaction Designer. This was admittedly
general and more limited to a nudge in a direction that would create an
avenue of information. I am not an Interaction Designer; I support a
consulting firm that engages Designers for long term project work.

She had hosts of questions; including questions about entry level
opportunities that might put her in a relevant environment while she
advanced her education with relevant course work.

The questions I would submit on her behalf would include: what are best
education courses to take; to build the right foundation, best places to
take them (preferably in NYC) and how best to present herself as novice
seeking to work in some entry level capacity; in a relevant environment;
to support an IA context and benefit from the exposure to professionals
currently engaged as an Interaction Designer...

Any insights or leads from our esteemed online contribtutors?

Thanks in [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[IxDA Discuss] Recruiters

2008-03-28 Thread Bert Copello
what ~does~ getting into IT recruiting involve?
Is it like being a real estate agent/broker, but for IT jobs?
Special degrees beyond the obvious? HR background?
Nice smile?

I thought I would chime in as I am an IT Recruiter.

The issues raised are all legitimate. It is true that many recruiters
practice a shotgun approach.

I do not subscribe to that as IT has developed in such a dynamic and
specialized way; that finding the right person for an opportunity is all
about the details. From a credibility stand point it does not serve
anyones interest to propose a role to a candidate nor a candidate to a
client; that is not a suitable match; this undermines the confidence of
your constituency on all fronts. As a individual; I have also suffered
the slings and arrows of blasts and errant calls that were no where near
my profile. Mostly to blame are the companies and learship of these
companies; they have no clue; to them it is a sales model and you throw
as much dung at the walls and see what sticks; so they are often inclined
to hire someone that has no clue and pay them less and cultivate a rote
machine like manner; then to hire someone who approaches in a
professional, analytical and yes ethical manner with the proper etiquette
and builds a following that is based on mutual respect and interest.

Most are not trained; simply given simple templates; but there are those
that have an appreciation and the intelligence that develop into more
reputable and effective advocates and agents that serve their end clients
and candidates well. I have maintained relationships and developed
friendships with indiviudals that I help facilitate an opportunity for
since 1999; when I entered the industry and have earn the respect of
clients and candidates alike; for providing a timely and cost effective
service that has led to the development of successful careers and the
loyalty of hiring managers that value my efforts and input.

I have also learned much from the folks; (..your mailing list
included.;o)that I serve and congregate with and it has made me a better
recruiter and I too have learned to accept that in the execution of my
duties and with all the best intentions; I will deal with candidates who
are dishonest, self serving, deluded and lacking in social grace and
ethical value; but as in life and in balance; the good outshines the bad.

...and yes; I'm advise that I have a great smile..infectious even; a
degree in Theatre Mgmt, classically trained In Stanislavski Method,
politcally active and socially conscious, a frustrated writer and most of
all... my kids dad.

Just wanted you to give you a beacon of sorts. I thought the litany of
comparisons might lead to include; Theatrical agents and lawyers; but
thats another post subject altogether...:o)

-Bert
