Hi David, We have implemented something like this last year for pgRouting (extension of PostGIS/PostgreSQL). It's very similar to what you describe. Our goal was to have some genetic algorithm to solve the dial-a-ride problem for bus-on-demand as described here

Chris, Thanks for the info. I kinda figured the Meego thing was stalling on my own. A couple of manufacturers I've seen so far, but no big numbers yet. I did send in some notes for the Mobile sprint a couple of weeks ago., never heard any comments though, so don't know where they went.
