Where is it the best place for a report : annual report only, journal only, both of them ? I could write a 2007 overview of the Francophone Local Chapter for the Annual Report and another one (2008 focus) for the journal. Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] 2007 Annual Report - your involvement
Hi Tyler, OSGeo-India is a hub of activity. I have earlier reported about our endeavour upto July-2007. Since then so much is done. I will offer an article on behalf of OSGeo India soon for journal-4. [OSGeo-Discuss] Introduction
Everyone, I just wanted to send out an email to introduce myself. I have been reading these threads for a while, but have never really had the time to offer support. I can now dedicate time to really contribute and be an effective part of the OSGeo community. My name is Mike Goldberg, and recently graduated (2006) from Shippensburg University with a degree in Geography / GIS. Post undergrad, i spent a year in Shanghai, taking in the culture and learning as much Mandarin I could. Currently, I work for Bentley Systems as an Account Manager for their Geo/Civil product lines. I am a fairly new Linux user but love the Open Source aspect of the OS. I'll be honest and say that I haven't had much experience with the open source GIS solutions as I've done most of my work with proprietary software in Windows. I hope to bring fresh ideas to help bolster Open Source GIS as an alternative, not a replacement, to proprietary software. I think there is a time and place for both, with each having it's own benefits and pitfalls. I look forward to working with everyone here to make Open Source software better! Thanks! [OSGeo-Discuss] Special session with focus on OGC-ISO standards at Fusion 2008 - are you interested in it?
Hi list, today I have been asked by Dott.Raffaele Grasso (cced here) who is a scientist at NURC (http//www.nurc.nato.int) to give my opinion regarding the possibility to set up a special session focused on interoperability through OGC-ISO standards in the geospatial world, at the Fusion 2008 conference (see http://www.fusion2008.org/conferences_en/fusion+2008). Just for the records, the Fusion conference is one of the most important conferences for Information Fusion; the audience interests' area is a bit broader than the sole GeoSpatial Data fusion but that the latter would play an important role anyway hence there is surely space, at least IMHO, for the suggested special session. Since deadlines are pretty strict, I thought it would have been nice to ask the people on this list for an opinion on this idea; my goal is to sense the level of interest that this special session would received at least from our community in order to decide whether or not facing the effort required for organizing it. So please gentlemen, tell me your opinion about this special session; do you think it would be an interesting idea? What would you like the exact focus to be put on ? I am interested in any possible feedback you may be willing to report... Thx for your time, Simone. -- --- Eng. Simone Giannecchini President /CEO GeoSolutions S.A.S. [OSGeo-Discuss] 2008 Events on your calendar
Hi all, Starting into 2008 makes it a good time to update our event calendar. You can see events listed on the front page of osgeo.org - but there isn't much in there right now: http://www.osgeo.org/event/2008/01/10/list/all/all Keeping events in this list will help keep them on the radar for potential marketing, speaking and promotion opportunities as well. If you have an event that you think is important to OSGeo members to know about, attend or that open source will be presented at, please drop me a note with details and I'll add them to the site. Details should include: - Start/end date time (with timezone) - Title of event - Detailed text - you can supply it with urls and other markup using simple wikimedia syntax if you wish We can also handle multiple languages for each event - so feel free to include those as well. Take care, Tyler ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[OSGeo-Discuss] Call for Papers: LocWeb2008 in Conjunction with the WWW 2008 Conference
volks, Below is the call for papers for the First International Workshop on Location and the Web in Conjunction with the WWW 2008 Conference. I hope some of you will consider submitting papers and boosting the OSGeo presence. Disclaimer: I am one of the organizers. http://medien.informatik.uni-oldenburg.de/LocWeb2008/index.html Scope The First International Workshop on Location and the Web (LocWeb 2008) focuses on all the geospatial aspects that are related to the Web. A location-aware Web will spawn network effects among geo-referenced data models and services, improving interoperability and interaction by providing a well-defined location concept for the Web. We encourage submissions that will enable mobile search, search in automotive, special local search engines in specialized fields. The workshop will look at the theme of location and the Web from a macro-level, interdisciplinary perspective. In recent years, the topic of location appears in many communities and is achieving great attention - user-generated content, location-related multimedia Web content, Web scale geo-content mining, and mobile search are only some of these developments. -- Puneet Kishor ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
