[OSGeo-Discuss] Harvesting from a Geoportal Extension 9.3.1

2011-01-27 Thread jforne

Hi there
I'm having trouble adding Geoportal Extensions as nodes to be harvested by
my GeoNetwork node. Could somebody please guide me through what I need to do
to add Geoportal Extensions (presumably under Harvesting Management)? Please
see below for a screen dump of how I tried (unsucessfully) to configure...

http://osgeo-org.1803224.n2.nabble.com/file/n5968645/Screen_dump_re_harvesting_geoportal.doc
Screen_dump_re_harvesting_geoportal.doc

Note: we are developing a GeoNetwork catalogue for datasets and other
resources in New Zealand. I am trying to configure our GeoNetwork node so
that our node is able to harvest metadata from other web-based catalogues -
both GeoNetwork based and others.

Many thanks in anticipation,

John

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Open source for local government resources

2011-01-27 Thread Arnie Shore
Charlie , good news re that planned article. Here's our contribution.

A mainstay of most local government public safety operations is a
Computer-Aided-Dispatch (AKA CAD) application, and our project has
developed and made available such an animal, Tickets CAD by name. It's
free, Open Source, and has been under continuing upgrade since its initial
release in 2007. Its cost - again, it's free - makes it suitable for many
operations that need to manage their dispatch operations but simply lack the
budget.

Or, some operations that find commercial, proprietary packages can't meet
their operational needs, and the cost of custom tailoring is prohibitive.
Open Source changes all that.

I'll note only that while not suitable for every public safety site - no
single CAD can be that - Tickets includes extensive facilities for
tailoring to a site's particular terminology and usage requirements, as well
as the record-keeping and geo-oriented capabilities a modern CAD requires.

Some specifics re resources:

Tickets CAD is available from SourceForge at
http://openises.sourceforge.net/tickets01.html - where the verbiage needs
some refreshing, although the download is current.

We have a discussion group at
https://groups.google.com/forum/?lnk=gcimv#!forum/open-source-cad

It was discussed a bit ago in
http://www.emsworld.com/features/article.jsp?id=11988&siteSection=7

Will be happy to expand on any of the above, of course.

All,

The GeoMoose project (http://www.geomoose.org/) was initially created by, and
for, local governments, expressly for use as an online mapping publication,
information and discovery tool. It's since gone on to see use in other
business professions besides local government.

[OSGeo-Discuss] Unofficial Croatian Local Chapter

2011-01-27 Thread Dražen Odobašić

Dear OSGEO members,

we finally managed to bootstrap Croatian Local Chapter. The rest of this
message is invitation in Croatian language.

Prijatelji slobodnog softvera,

došlo je vrijeme za organizaciju. Iako se ideja već dugo kuhala, tek
nedavno je pokrenuta inicijativa u obliku Croatian Local Chaptera pod
okriljem OSGEO organizacije.

Osnovna ideja je, okupiti korisnike slobodnog geoinformatičkog
softvera i otvorenih standarda u Hrvatskoj, kako bi napravili registar
znanja kojim korisnici raspolažu. Izradom registra znanja omogućili bi
lakšu suradnju i tzv. umrežavanje u svrhu promocije i popularizacije
slobodnog softvera i otvorenih standarda.

Više o 'Hrvatskoj skupini korisnika' možete pročitati na službenim
wiki stranicama http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Croatia.

konferencije u Hrvatskoj.

Ovim putem pozivamo sve prijatelje slobodnog softvera koji razumiju
hrvatski jezik da nam se pridruže, neovisno o adresi prebivališta ili
nacionalnosti.

Do skorašnjeg dobrog druženja,
Dražen
