OSGeo Members, I made a copy/paste error in this announcement and the last paragraph (copied from last year's announcement) referring to August 12, 2010 as the nomination close is incorrect. The nomination period indeed ends on August 7, 2011 at 23:59 ... Sorry about this Daniel On

What does MapQuery do beyond what OpenLayers does? Does MapQuery formally extend OpenLayers? In other words, does MapQuery include OpenLayers, but provide an interface familiar to jQuery developers, or was OpenLayers simply informal inspiration? --- Raj On Jul 28, at 3:56 PM, Steven Ottens

2011-07-29 Thread Steven Ottens
Hi Raj, MapQuery formally extends OpenLayers, it is similar in concept as GeoExt, but uses jQuery instead of Ext. The idea is to create a jQuery-style webmapping library which wraps around OpenLayers and extends it with functionality like layer managers, datagrids (NYI), legends etc. We try to

Thanks. Sounds like a great addition to the web mapping universe. Attracting more traditional web developers is a noble endeavor! --- Raj On Jul 29, at 12:47 PM, Steven Ottens wrote: Hi Raj, MapQuery formally extends OpenLayers, it is similar in concept as GeoExt, but uses jQuery instead

Great addition indeed; thanks to all who've contributed to this release. I wonder if there's a demo site, or examples, or ??? I semi-know my way around OSM/OL, but JQuery is new, and I've really, really, really been looking for an OL wrapper like this. My plans are to integrate it with a

Hi Arnie, Being a 0.1 release it's not very shiny, but you can find examples and docs at http://mapquery.org/demo/ and http://mapquery.org/docs/ or you can get the code from https://github.com/mapquery/mapquery/ it has the same examples included as on the site. If you need help, feel free to

[OSGeo-Discuss] online open source polygon mapping, like OSM?

2011-07-29 Thread Nitin Gadia
Please help!! Does anyone know an open online mapping platform like openstreetmap that does polygons (OSM only does lines)? Basically, I'm envisioning something where someone can add polygons such as historical nations, and then be able to animate them. I should be able to type in, say, 1900

Nitin, Openlayers can build polygons on the map. GeoMoose, which is built on top of OpenLayers can also do this. In both cases you will need to build out a service to store the created polygons. bobb Nitin Gadia nitty...@gmail.com wrote: Please help!! Does anyone know an open

Someone also told me you can do polygons in openstreetmap (parking lots, buildings, etc.). Does anyone know how to do this? I can't seem to be able to figure it out... Vector editing in OpenLayers (i.e. drawing points, lines and polygons). http://openlayers.org/dev/examples/vector-formats.html

Hi Steven, Nice start for MapQuery. jQuery is easier to learn than ExtJS. MapQuery would be good web client to QGIS (Map) Server, GeoServer and Mapserver. I hope we can have Print Widget in the next release One suggestion I think if would be better to include minified versions of Openlayer
