Ogg: Gauss-Kruger Slovenia

Hello,

I have some geographical data
of Slovenia, the coordinate
system is Gauss-Kruger.

Looking to the
link [1] I suppouse that we are
in Zone 5.

In QGIS I see
EPSG 2168
[Pulkovo 1942(83) / Gauss Kruger
zone 5 (deprecated)]
but it doesn't
work..

Moreover looking to the
link [2] I see that the False Easting
is 550.00 but I have data
smallest than 550.00

Someone have some information about the
Gauss-Kruger? About, for
example EPSG code?

Thank you very much
Marco

[OSGeo-Discuss] OGRS2012 :: tentative program is available and registration is open

2012-08-29 Thread Olivier ERTZ

OGRS2012 :: Open Source Geospatial Research and Education Symposium

October 24 – 26, 2012 in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland
Hosted by School of Business and Engineering Vaud (HEIG-VD)

Follow us on https://twitter.com/OGRS2012 and tweet with #OGRS2012 !

(our apologies for cross-postings)

Dear colleagues,

The Open Source Geospatial Research and Education Symposium (OGRS)
program committee is glad to announce the publication of a tentative
program. Also, the registration is now open. Register until end of
September to take benefit of the early bird registration period.

Go to www.ogrs2012.org to discover the program and to do your registration.

OGRS is a meeting dedicated to exchanging ideas on development and use
of open source geospatial software in both research and education.
Several opportunities exist for presenting results, principles, methods
and practices: keynote talks, regular presentations, posters with short
presentations session, workshops and discussion groups.

Outcomes will validate the importance of the open source model and
demonstrate how it can be used successfully for geospatial research and
education.

There will be opportunities to mingle at evening events such as ice
breakers and the social event at the Grand Hôtel des Bains.

We would appreciate if you could kindly distribute this announcement to
other interested parties of your acquaintance.

Looking forward to your participation in this event.

Best regards,
OGRS program committee.

[OSGeo-Discuss] Java access to native MySQL Geometry

2012-08-29 Thread Simon Greener

Folks,

Not sure where to ask this question.

If anyone can point me to better places to do so...

I am investigating whether it is possible to access MySQL's GEOMETRY data
natively via Java. I do not wish to access the data via WKT or WKB if I can
avoid it.

Does anyone know of any open source Java resources that could help me do this?

regards
Simon

[OSGeo-Discuss] ESRI getting more serious about open source?

2012-08-29 Thread Ned Horning
Hi - A colleague on the Society for Sonservation GIS list shared a link
to this blog Esri and Open Source Software: More Please at
http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2012/08/27/esri-and-open-source-software-more-please/

I'm not sure what to think about it but on the surface it seems like a
good thing. Is OSGeo involved with this initiative in any way? If not is
there any interest in having OSGeo play an active role in the opening of
ESRI code? I'm curious what other folks think of this.

Ned,

My initial assumption is that the code released as
open source would primarily be built on top of ArcGIS
and that this is little more than a samples directory.
However, rereading the announcement there is hope
for more particularly given the involvement of the folks
formally of GeoIQ.

I am not aware of any interest on ESRI's side to be involved
with OSGeo on this. I'm inclined to just let things develop,
but if anyone with contacts with the folks at the DC dev
center would like to chat with them, perhaps we will see more
concrete opportunities.

Something to keep an eye on at least.

Best regards,
