I don't think I ever made the request for peer review articles for
Volume 12 of the OSGeo Journal on this list. You can find the request
 here:

 http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Volume_12_-_Request_for_Peer_Review_Articles

 It is also here:

 http://geojournaleditor.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/volume-12-request-for-peer-review-articles/

Please note: We are accepting submissions from private companies and
other organizations, not just students. I look forward to reviewing
 the submissions!

Hello Landon,

do you also have fixed a deadline for submission? I find it helpful for
deciding if and when to work on the article.

Many thanks!
Anne

Hi Landon,
a quick question. I read that

The article topic should be related to research on the development
and use of geospatial software.

but no mention of open source software is made. Does this mean that e.g.
I could submit a paper about the research involved with the development
of a proprietary program or library? If not, it may be better to state
it clearly.

And yes I agree with Anne about the deadline.

Thanks

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Supporting Standards

[added standards mailing list back to the distribution list]

Quoting all of item 4, to put Stefano's quote in context:

Standards specifications are made accessible to all for implementation
and deployment. Affirming standards organizations have defined
procedures to develop specifications that can be implemented under
fair terms. Given market diversity, fair terms may vary from
royalty-free
to fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms (FRAND).

I'm pretty pragmatic about this stuff, so I see this as a perfectly reasonable
position for an organization to take.

Two months have passed since this last comment by Michael. I was
wondering if any decision has been taken about this?

It may be also useful to look at this MoU

http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Open_Source_and_Open_Standards

where no mention of FRAND is found (quite the opposite I would say).

Ciao

2012-11-13 Thread Landon Blake
I'd like to get the articles by the end of November, but I could wait
until the end of December.

The articles should be related to open source technology if possible.
I will clarify the request for contributions on the wiki.

Thanks.

Landon

[OSGeo-Discuss] New GRASS GIS Website online

2012-11-13 Thread Markus Neteler
The new GRASS GIS Website is finally online, offering
a fresh look-and-feel for users and newcomers!

Please visit
http://grass.osgeo.org/

After several month of development relevant content of
the old Website was migrated to a content management
system. The structure was simplified and put into a more
intuitive order.

We hope you enjoy the modernized site. The web team
is happy to receive comments and especially community
donated screenshots for the gallery. Please send to the
editors.

Note that the old Website is preserved for a while at the
address http://grassold.osgeo.org . Help is welcome to
migrate remaining relevant content to the Wiki. Furthermore,
the mirror sites will be maintained as software mirror.

Enjoy,
