I agree Community Projects is a confusing name.

What about incubator projects? That’s the term that Apache uses.

Today, knowing how ingrained the term 'lab' is in the GeoForAll
education network, maybe Jachym is correct that it is a good time to
modify the Incubation's "labs" term, to something like "Community

In universities, we generally use the "Labs" term to refer to

infrastructure/people/facilities for a particular subject. For example
Botany Lab, Robotics Lab etc. And we wanted to make sure there is a
dedicated Open Source Geospatial Lab in universities worldwide (which

So it will very helpful for us if you can make use of new

My idea would rather be to get rid of current OSGeo- "labs" and

Than for current OSGeo-Labs "OSGeo-project level 1" would make it (or

Hi Jachym,

do you think that with the renewal you can replace the name "OSGeo Labs"

by something else? Now we have also ISPRS-ICA-OSGeo Research and
Educational laboratories which might be often shortened to OSGeo Labs,
although I prefer OSGeoRELs for writing. The mainling list is
ica-osgeo-labs. Put perhaps it is not such an issue since the term "Geo for
All" (http://www.geoforall.org/) is now used more and more (well, the
linked website as OSGeo Labs in the title element).

Thanks for taking this into consideration,

Hello,

I'm trying to find an open source remote sensing software that is able
to perform
atmospheric correction on imagery data. I have minimal programming knowledge
so something that I can operate via a GUI is of preference. Would you be
able to help me or point me in the right direction? It. would also help if
there were tutorials or detailed user manuals included.

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [OSGeo-Conf] FOSS4G 2016 host city & Planning to make use of our FOSS4G conferences to launch new Educational initiatives every year

2015-03-04 Thread Suchith Anand
Congrats to Bonn Team and great work by Dublin Team.

I hope the Dublin Team will apply for FOSS4G 2017 Europe and build up your
excellent efforts.

Also my humble suggestion for all LOCs (present and future) and to our wider
community (hence ccing in) is that we see and make use of the global and
regional conferences not just as events but excellent platforms to launch new
initiatives.

When we hosted FOSS4G 2013 in Nottingham, the energy and momentum build up the
whole LOC Team inspired me to launch "Geo for All" Education mission publicly
without any funding or backup plan. When i look back at that email
http://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/discuss/2013-September/012387.htmli
thought maybe i was very over ambitious (esp. the targets set for Africa) to
put these big targets without any funding but seeing the volunteer commitments
put in by the whole LOC Team (who had worked hard over the whole year juggling
their work and family commitments) and the wider FOSS4G community first hand, i
was fully confident that we will achieve this over the years.

So my suggestion is that from now, we use our conferences (esp. the main global
conference) to launch new initiatives . From "Geo for All" i can confirm that
we will be happy to arrange one new educational initiative launch at each
global FOSS4G conference. We will invite ideas from the community for this and
select the best ones to announce and launch them.

Best wishes,

Suchith
