It is so depressing that barely 6 weeks before our major event, when dozens of
people are working every hour available while still doing a day job, that this
kind of a conversation distracts the BLOC and the wider community.

Is "presented by” “hosted by” “organised by” such a big deal? I really fear
that we may be losing a sense of perspective. If the board wants to vote on
this and change the guidance given to the BLOC then so be it, I would hope that
they have higher priorities.

Otherwise let’s say a massive thanks to Guido, Michael and the Boston team and
leave them to get on with organising OUR conference.

Hello,

we're looking for help testing OSGeo-Live 11.0 beta1 and translating docs.

In particular, we need help:

2. Check if any new features need to be added to Project Overviews [2]

4. Translate docs that have been updated. (Note, our spreadsheet [4] lists a

Thanks Marc,

As an OSGeo Charter Member, a co-leader of GeoForAll, and OSGeo's education
efforts, and someone in Massachusetts (but not really active with the BLOC), I
couldn't help but say that I am seeing first-hand the efforts of the Boston
LOC. FOSS4G 2017 Boston is going to be GREAT and the BLOC has been working like
crazy to pull off a really terrific conference.

Turning to Marc's point of focusing on the future and his references to
FOSS4G-NA-2018 and FOSS4G-2018...

I also wanted to let the community know about infrastructure we've built for
FOSS4G 2017 that can be used by future FOSS4G conferences. I (along with two
terrific and hardworking people -- Mohammed Zia and Andy Anderson) have been
managing the FOSS4G 2017 Boston Academic Track and the peer-review review
process for the papers and posters as we build the conference proceedings.
We've set up a proceedings review and publishing system based on BePress
Scholarworks that is paid for under my university's subscription (thanks to all
reviewers!). It will cost OSGeo and future FOSS4G conference organizers
nothing, and it has a very nice paper review system (like EasyChair, but again,
no cost). Once the proceedings are published, the open access papers' metadata
will be fed into many library databases for easy discovery. The proceedings
will be stored at [1] but we will also create a full pdf version that will be
published on the OSGeo Journal [2]. The OSgeo banner on [1] will be replaced
with any new branding that might be coming. (I've kept Venka and Helena
informed on this activity.)

The key point about the future:

If anyone who will be at FOSS4G Boston will be part of an organizing team for
future FOSS4G regional or global conferences, please contact me so I can show
the backend of the conference review and publishing system. It's a great
resource that is now available for any future FOSS4G conference, at no cost.

Cheers,

Charlie Schweik

Oggetto: [Geo4All] GeoAmbassador– Prof. Dr. Josef Strobl

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the GeoForAll community, it is my great pleasure to honour our
excellent colleague Prof. Dr. Josef Strobl as our GeoAmbassador. Josef Strobl
is a Professor at the Department of Geoinformatics at the University of
Salzburg, Austria. He is one of the pioneers involved in expanding
geoeducation esp. online GIS education through the UNIGIS International
Association . He is not only the chair of UNIGIS but also the brains behind the
success of UNIGIS . Josef is the force behind GI_Forum GeoInformatics Forum
Salzburg which helped establish University of Salzburg at the centre of key
developments by bringing together the GI-Forum community to discuss new ideas
and developments for the future.

I greatly admire his leadership abilities and vision. When we established
GeoForAll, he was one of the first visionaries that we approached to serve on
our Advisory Board . We thank Josef and colleagues for establishing the 75th
OSGeo lab at the University of Salzburg. More details at
http://opensourcegeospatial.icaci.org/2017/07/geoambassador-prof-dr-josef-strobl/

We are proud to honour Josef as our GeoAmbassodor and we are extremely grateful
for his contributions to Geo for All. Josef is a great ambassador for
Geospatial Science globally. May I also use this opportunity to send greetings
on behalf of GeoForAll to all colleagues now at GI_Forum 2017 this week (July
4-7 , 2017) and wishing them productive meetings and discussions.

Best wishes,

Suchith
