Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [OSGeo-Conf] FOSS4G TGP experiences

2018-09-26 Thread Jody Garnett
Thanks Steven,

I had some contact on telegram with several more travel grant recipients
what would like to share their story. Is there any interest in running a
second article.

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Marketing Committee 2019 Goals and Support

2018-09-26 Thread Jody Garnett
Thanks Johnathan, let's reach out to the map guide team to fix that link
(indeed we can do so as a discussion list since this will be a common
occurrence):

So the page is - MapGuide Open Source

First point of contact is the project officer...
- On the website (under about osgeo) is a list to all the board and officers
 - the mapguide open source contact is
"VP, MapGuide Open Source: Robert Bray" - so we can CC him on this email

The mapguide page lists an email list and an issue tracker. I do not want
to sign up for a mailing list right now, but we can report the issue in the
issue tracker.

Thanks for the feedback Jody and Jonathan,

# Jody

Agreed on all of your points. I hope that this email outreach is a good
start for recruiting people to get interested in what the marketing folks
are up to. In a way I was hoping that if any projects, chapters, etc...
were interested in specific support that this would be a good time for them
to step forward.

Many many thanks for your work with the website.

# Jonathon

I wonder if the main link is something Jody can correct and/or is this
something that we can get the project folks interested in working on?

Thanks Steven, this is great and we will follow this model with our TGP in
Oceania.

Maria - well said. +100

Till (and all the board, and all of OSgeo) - thanks again for your support
for our TGP, it’s had a fantastic response. While fairly small, it already
looks like it will be instrumental in helping grow this community; and make
a real difference in our region. As discussed, please lean on us to help
formulate a policy on how to help all the regional events in future.

2018-09-26 Thread Till Adams
Dear Maria,

thank you for the strong statement, especially for me (as chair), for the whole
conference committee and of course for our community. Your statement clearly
shows, how important TGP should be for our community and also *why*.

In the next 1-2 weeks I really want to work out a proposal on how to extend TGP
from global also to regional OSGeo events - you remember, we just had this one
case for the Oceanian chapter. I know, that we as CC will not spend all of our
TGP-budget for this year. I think this is because there was simply no procedure
on how to get OSGeo suport for TGP for regional events, but this is exactly
what we want to change for next year - and of course we rely on the support
from the board (and the community as a whole) ;-)

2018-09-26 Thread María Arias de Reyna
Thanks Steven,

It is very important to understand *why* TGP is important. Why we do
what we do. It is not charity. It is not throwing money to feel
better. It is not spending money for washing bad behavior.*

The intent is to grow and improve our community with more and more
people that, otherwise, will not be able to attend. It is enriching
our community with active people.

If only a fifth of this year's TGP participants continue working on
OSGeo and grow the community on their area in the following years, I
would be really happy and I would feel it was a good investment.

* I haven't seen this feeling in our community, but I have seen this
"colonial" thinking on other communities and it made me feel really
disgusted. So I wanted to patch before seeing the wound, just in case
:)
