Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo LinkedIn Page and PlanetOSGeo Twitter account was created

2018-11-14 Thread Jody Garnett
Reaching beyond LinkedIn (which is somewhat regional) participation in open
source is a great way to build up documented experience. Especially for
those new to the job market consider reaching out to the projects you
contribute to and asking for a letter of recommendation.

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Hall of Fame

2018-11-14 Thread Luís Moreira de Sousa
Ditto. GRASS is over 30 years old, MapServer, GDAL and PROJ are over 20 years
old. An OSGeo Pantheon would be the right homage to all those that made FOSS4G
what it is today, but are no longer among us.

Cheers.

This is an excellent idea.

[OSGeo-Discuss] Happy Geography Awareness Week

2018-11-14 Thread Suchith Anand
Dear colleagues,

Happy Geography Awareness Week to everyone. I would like to share a great video
compilation by Nicera Kimani that I came across.

Nicera is a young woman from Kibera helping informal settlement in data
collection and mapping. FOSS4G was her first time ever interacting with other
colleagues in the geospatial community across the world. This video is what she
made using her phone, and was produced by phone! I thank Nicera Kimani’s for
her wonderful gift to the global community.

Details at https://www.osgeo.org/resources/nicera-kimani-foss4g-2018-video/

The best gift to give is a gift of useful knowledge. During Geography Awareness
Week events please share our resources with all to make geoeducation and
digital economy opportunities accessible to all our brothers and sisters around
the world and our future generations.

Best wishes,

Suchith
