Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Board] Elections 2017 from the CRO point of view

Thank you for your summary and assessment of the situation, Vasile!

I can't guarantee that I'll be able to make it, but here are my thoughts:

1) +1 Vasile's recommendation "to create a clear rule stating that an
accepted nomination cannot be withdraw after the start of the voting
period", and therefore

2) +1 the recommendation "not to admit the [withdrawal] request from Jef"

3) +1 "not to start new elections" for the reasons summarized by Vasile

Thanks again Vasile for taking care of the process! I hope we will find
someone as dedicated for future elections.

Regards,
Anita

[OSGeo-Discuss] Announcing the OSGeo Seal Design Contest Winner

2016-03-21 Thread Anita Graser
Dear OSGeo community,

Thank you everyone involved in designing and voting for our new official
OSGeo seal!

The votes were really tight and we had a tie between two options: Christian
Willmes' submission #3 and Benoît Fournier's #8, but there can only be one
winner. Therefore we had to make a choice.

I'm glad to announce that the winner is Benoît Fournier, who found a
particularly good balance between logo and text elements:

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo4W maintenance activities

projects and many users rely on it.

The volunteer team around OSGeo4W is not that big and I wonder how
sustainable this is in the long run. From what I know, there are quite a
lot of - mostly maintenance - issues on the todo list, which have been
sitting there for months.

I'd like to encourage the OSGeo4W team to let us know how OSGeo can help
ensure that this important project for many users is run in a sustainable
manner.

Best wishes,
Anita

Hi Suchith,

A big Austrian project relevant to ITS is now moving to open data:
http://gip.gv.at/

I've started development of open source tools to work with the data (

will see more in the future.

Best wishes,

The way I see it, the seal should be a compact (probably round),
black&white design. I left the design brief open on purpose, but I'd expect
mostly variations of the existing logo.

OSGeo just turned 10 and as a gift to ourselves, we would like to invite
the artistic minds in our community to develop the official seal for our
foundation (in line with our bylaws). This seal will be used on official
documents, such as the student award certificates at FOSS4G Events.

Anyone may submit artwork. We are looking for the best, so spread the word
to your family and friends.

The winning designer will receive a free pass to FOSS4G

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Mapping advice

2013-01-04 Thread Anita Graser
Hi Rachel,

As others have noted, it's generally a good idea to keep the number of
different applications low - especially if you would have to learn each one
of them from scratch.

A solution with very few tools would be:
- QGIS Desktop for loading and editing data
- PostGIS as a data storage (I wouldn't go with anything file-based)
- QGIS Server for publishing your projects to the web
- Leaflet (or OpenLayers depending on the requirements) for the web
application

You can probably get some ideas by browsing through some of my posts such
as:
http://underdark.wordpress.com/2012/03/30/qgis-server-on-ubuntu-step-by-step/
http://underdark.wordpress.com/2012/09/19/leaflet-stamen-toner-and-qgis-server-an-intro/

Depending on your exact requirements it might also be worth checking QGIS
Cloud which could save you the trouble of setting up a server and web
viewer.

Best wishes,
Anita
