[OSGeo-Discuss] Certified software policy within international aid agencies
Dear everyone, While manning our OSGeo booth in a geo conference today. An employee of an international aid agency approached me and said while they very much like to try many of our software, they can't easily install them because they have strict IT policy that requires that a software should be certified by their organization. I know this is not OSGeo specific but more of FOSS in general. I am also aware that large businesses may have similar IT policies. However, what concerns me more is that these aid agencies are directly working with many organizations specifically with developing countries like ours. They have limited view on what FOSS options are available and it can influence any advice they on what technology developing country organizations can use. Just a thought. Hi Maning, could you please ask them what exactly is their certification programme, and how to access it? It will probably be just boring nonsense, but it might be interesting to understand the process anyway.
