Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] GSoC 2020 need new Lead Admin to take over
Dear OSGeo Community Members and OSGeo GSoC Admins, Greetings! Sincere thanks to all the Admins for their constant help and support throughout the past years in organizing the Summer of Code. For me, GSoC plays a very important part of my career and I feel it would be same for a lot of us. Having mentioned that, I personally believe that it would be sad if the GSoC is not continued. I feel that this also calls for an opportunity to people like me who can jump into new shoes under the guidance of ex-Admins to carry forward the continous open-source contribution in the geospatial domain under the umbrella of the OSGeo. So, I would be honored to be a part of the GSoC Admin team. It would be a great learning experience for me and a progressive step moving ahead in my life. In the past, I have completed GSoC 2017 as a student under the OSGeo (MapMint project). I also got an amazing opportunity to co-mentor the projects for MapMint in 2018 and 2019. Unfortunately, I missed out the opportunity to be a part of the OSGeo representative committee for the GSoC Mentor Summit in 2019 due to visa issues. Currently, I am mentoring for the OSGeo Google Code-in. Before taking this step, I wanted to be sure that I would be able to carry forward this responsibility and hence, I tried to do a bit of research on the basis of conversations stored in the Archives. Please be assured that I am making a well thought decision, and my commitment in this new endeavour is 100%. Thanks! Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] GSoC 2020 need new Lead Admin to take over
Hi Daniel, you're right that the wiki page is not much updated, of those listed, Anne, Jeff and Florin had already retired before last year. The others have personal reasons that hinder a commitment for this year's edition. I'm sure all of us will make our best to help whoever takes over, but we're no longer taking the responsibility to carry out the program. Hope this clarifies. Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] GSoC 2020 need new Lead Admin to take over
Thank you to everyone of the admin team, who made GSoC run smoothly in the past year. I'm a little bit surprised that from one year to the other all 6 admins (as listed on the OSGeo page) will not be able to participate anymore. It would be definitely good for OSGeo as a mentoring organisation if there could be a smooth transition over the years. Or are you just looking for a "lead admin"? Who of the previous admin team is planning to continue? [OSGeo-Discuss] GSoC 2020 need new Lead Admin to take over
>From GSoC mentors mailing list: "*Open Source Organizations* that wish to be mentoring orgs for GSoC 2020 can now apply. Orgs please remember the organization application period will close on Wednesday, February 5th. You can go to g.co/gsoc to complete your organization's application." Due to personal reasons, we admins realized none of us has the time to allocate to GSoC this year. So, OSGeo needs a new Lead Admin or there won't be GSoC at OSGeo this year. What's needed to carry out the task? The Lead Admin is: - willing to not go offline during the summer - familiar with GSoC environment (has read all the rules and is capable to explain / enforce them) - prompt to respond to emails - capable of meeting deadlines - proactive and self-starter These are only suggestions, we're not recruiting. The process should go on without us. I'm personally willing to give some support if needed, compatibly with time availability.
