Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] contacting project officers

2010-11-07 Thread Cameron Shorter
So long as the OSGeo project officers email list is used sparingly, I
think it would be valuable. We need to keep the signal to noise ratio
high in order to ensure that project officers don't put emails into a
folder which doesn't get read.

I suggest rules of:
* List is moderated for all external traffic.
* People on the list (project leads) can email it.

Only other thought was - should this just be for for all officers (as your

I also noted the web page was currently incomplete; who are the current
officers?

I agree it would be a good idea. These would be the primary contacts for
committee chairs and project steering committees for the software projects.
Let's see what others say. I have a private alias that I set up to do such
communications, but could push it into mailman quite easily too.

[OSGeo-Discuss] contacting project officers

2010-11-05 Thread Jody Garnett
Here is an idea:

On the website[1] publish a list of "project officers" who can be contacted as
representatives by the various committees (education, marketing and incubation).

Currently this list is perhaps incomplete?
VP, FDO: Greg Boone
VP, GDAL/OGR: Frank Warmerdam
VP, GeoNetwork opensource: Jeroen Ticheler
VP, GRASS: Markus Neteler
VP, Mapbender: Christoph Baudson
VP, Mapbuilder: Cameron Shorter
VP, MapGuide Open Source: Robert Bray
VP, OpenLayers: Erik Uzureau
VP, Quantum GIS: Gary Sherman

Today's email on behalf of the marketing committee really highlighted to me
that this workflow is not being followed (except for Tyler and the Journal -
thanks!).

Could we set up a mailing list containing project officers to help committees
make contact? Even if it is just to invite project representatives to an IRC
meeting or other activity; a contact mailing list would perhaps help.

Cheers,

Jody
