[slim] Roll back / uninstall 6.5 beta?

I've been using the 6.5 beta for a while and, now that it's released, I want to start using 6.2.1. How do I go about uninstalling 6.5 and is it necessary to roll back the firmware on the players (and how do you do it)? -- NeilB

Was curious how slow we can go? I am running dedicated slimserver 6.2.x on winxp pro on a 1998/9? DAN (remember them UK?) asus 333Mhz 512kb ram 200GBHD sitting hardwired in the garage, plugging along. Very slow to rescan my 2000 song library, but once its done it works ok. A stutter here

I'd second the 600mhz route. Running SuSE linux with 512mb. Web interface is a little slow but other than that it works just fine. FWIW I'm running 4 players off it too with no real problems. On the SB2 I don't even get stuttering during scanning as the buffer is so big. -- xio

Sounds to me like the problem lies with your server, rather than the network. You get behavior like that when the server is busy (either with Slimserver stuff, or other CPU-intensive applications). What's your collection size, hardware, and what other roles is your server performing? Chris

When you say you navigate to an artist, what do you mean? By what means are you navigating? I just upgraded to 6.2.1 to test this for you and I don't see that behavior in the Fishbone skin, or via the infrared remote. When selecting the No Album option, only songs by that artist show up.

I haven't had time to look at the Slimserver sources, but I can't imagine it being hard to do a simple on-the-fly path substitution in Perl. You'd want to replace string X with Y (which could be specified in a preferences) so the Mac or PC paths in iTunes Music Library.xml would remain

Investigating further, I attempted to build a later version of perl with debugging symbols to see if I could narrow down the problem. I did, but not how I would have like to. I found gcc would also seg fault at arbitrary points in the perl build process (say 2-5 times), but make succesfully

That does sound like a bug somewhere. There's no reason that an Ethernet interface with a given MAC address can't have more than one IP address, though. I've run web servers with dozens of IP addresses bound to a single NIC. I'm not familiar enough with the DHCP protocol to say whether or not
