I've been using the 6.5 beta for a while and, now that it's released, I
want to start using 6.2.1.
How do I go about uninstalling 6.5 and is it necessary to roll back the
firmware on the players (and how do you do it)?

While any codec is good to have done on the device itself, AAC won't
have any real benefit since Apple Fairplay still isn't licenced - so
iTunes downloads will still be unplayable.

What format is the music in? I had problems with 6.21 and WMA files in
that the compilation feature didn't work. I found that deleting the
album artist (also known as band or TPE2 tag) and composer tags did the
trick.

200GBHD sitting hardwired in the garage, plugging along.
Very slow to rescan my 2000 song library, but once its done it

Additionally, after enough attempts, the scan completes indicating 224
albums of 3176 songs, and promptly core dumps. Oddly, a little playing
with ls */* | wc -l , and find -name \*.flac | wc -l ,etc, gives 225
albums of 3176 songs.
The album number seems out by one.

I'd second the 600mhz route. Running SuSE linux with 512mb. Web
interface is a little slow but other than that it works just fine. FWIW
I'm running 4 players off it too with no real problems. On the SB2 I
don't even get stuttering during scanning as the buffer is so big.

to perfectly configure itself right out of the box and worked right
away. The sound quality is great. And, considering that Im using an
old PII/266 running Linux as the slimserver, I cant believe how

I just upgraded to 6.2.1 to test this for you and I don't see that
behavior in the Fishbone skin, or via the infrared remote. When
selecting the No Album option, only songs by that artist show up.

16000 songs and 3 squeezeboxes - rescanning takes half a day and web
pages are slow but usable, otherwise works fine and handles aac
conversions and alienbbc happily

So - I stuck a simple Belkin 5-way switch between the PC and SB - all
fine. but...if I connect the modem/router to the switch( and then
internet on the PC is fine) I get the same buffer problems - the buffer
just drains away to 0% - the moment I unplug the router from the switch
the buffer leaps
Over the next 24 hrs we will be doing some scheduled server maintenance.
Various things will be down at different times for approx 20 minutes per
service while we move machines to a different cabinet at our colo
provider.

imagine it being hard to do a simple on-the-fly path substitution in
Perl.
You'd want to replace string X with Y (which could be specified in a
preferences) so the Mac or PC paths in iTunes Music Library.xml would

Ethernet interface with a given MAC address can't have more than one IP
address, though. I've run web servers with dozens of IP addresses bound
