Thanks for the ideas. I reckon I'll go with a new Duet Receiver and Controller in the end as it seems to offer the best of both worlds in that it can be used from the bed or anywhere the sound can be heard upstairs. It does require separate speakers so isn't as neat as the boom but I like the
