? Alternatively maybe now is the time to get a universal remote
which I have been thinking of for a while, e.g. the Logitech Harmony
one.

appears in the log whenever I press the
play or power button. Entries do appear for all other buttons. Does
this suggest a fault with the remote, the squeezebox, firmware or
slimserver?
I have tried changing the batteries but this made no difference.

Found out what problem was thanks to fred7. I have VMWare installed
which has 2 virtual network addresses and it was picking one of those
instead of the IP address of my actual PC. After disabling them it now
works fine. Is there no way of telling it which ip address to use ?

yes, i have checked on the squeezebox settings menu and it says firmware
version 55
