I have an old v3 (still says Slim Devices) that now won't stay on - when
plugged in, it will turn on and work for a minute or two and then shut
off. The few times it would stay on longer at times it told me it could
no longer detect ethernet although the cord was in as before.
For others who have
I just started getting 'GlobalServiceFailedLogin' errors on all boxes
and mysqueezebox.com
Anyone else seeing this, and more importantly, found a way to fix?

A few more fun facts - the laptop runs Vista Enterprise and Symantec
Endpoint Protection - both of which I have been able make work with my
Squeezebox until adding the VPN to the mix.

The other big advantage should be improved flexibility in where the
Squeezebox can be relative to the wireless access point.

Could 6.5.1 be taking longer to do something it needs to do to be

Get an internal drive you like and spend $30 on a drive enclosure.
You'll probably spend less and get a better drive. You will certainly
gain more flexibility.

My apologies if I could not find the right search term, but does the SB3
now have a way to report a device id to the router it connects to?

The other side of the equation is what has changed from FW 28 to 35 and
are there compelling reasons to upgrade the server to get the updated
firmware? (And if I downgrade the server back to 6.2.1, would I need to
downgrade the firmware as well?)

One last question - my receiver (Harmon Kardon 8000) can detect and
natively decode MP3 signals over digital inputs. Would I be better off
having it do that, and can I make the SB3 send the MP3 signal instead
of a PCM signal?

Server: Dell Latitude D600; Win Pro XP2; signal strength to router

SB3: Firmware 28; reported signal strength 55-65%

In case anyone ever has the same issue. If you have the iTunes Update
plugin running, SlimServer running as a service, and direct mode
updates to iTunes turned on, the server spends two minutes trying to
write to iTunes.

I had tried a range extender from Airlink with similar problems - and
finally gave up. Have you verified that other devices can get IP
addresses from the range extender? Have you verified that your router
now sees those devices?

Hmm.. I had stayed away from pre-N and Mimo because I thought I needed
the same tech on both ends. Are you using the Pre-N with matching
equipment in your server? Are you seeing signal improvements at the SB
also?

Wireless seems to be very dependent upon the router brand. I had nothing
but problems with SMC and am doing much better with D-Link. Check the
router status page in the wiki for which ones seem to do better than
others.

the wireless speed the SMC did, but I'm willing to

So try the latest firmware with the SMC, or play

get another router.
