I would like to make a direct SB3 Mac connection on my computer at
work. However, it is at a university, and I can't change my IP address.
There may be Firewall issues.
Is it likely to be a lost cause?

Recent macs don't require that a crossover cable be used.

My SB is now directly connected to my MacBook via ethernet cable.
Here's the process
Mac
System Preferences Network Show Built-in Ethernet

Enter IP Address and then assign IP address to SB at the set-up prompt

troubles with my home wireless connection and current can't play my
music through the 'standard' wireless configuration.
In FAQs, I found some instructions on connecting SB to Windows PC

crossover cable for the ethernet connection to work. You could always
have the Book create a wireless network and try having the SB3 look to
it...
can you

Is a crossover cable the same as a 'standard' ethernet cable, like the
cable I would use to connect my router to my computer? I had not heard
the term

I'm sure you'll get some.
I can answer about Windoze and

Almost. A crossover cable looks externally exactly like a standard
ethernet cable, but
Thanks again, Pat. Not sure on how to assign the fixed IP address to my
Mac ethernet jack though.
Advice for a neophyte...anyone?

Drive around in whatever control panel you use to setup networking.
