Many moons ago, I used the standard Squeezeplay OS. You used to be able
to install via debian the LMS nightlies. No idea if that route

I'm not aware of it, unless it's
This is the latest one available for PnP. SqueezeOS doesn't come with
LMS unless there's more storage capacity available.
I think there has been some discussion/instructions in these forums
recently where somebody updated it.
Are you totally expecting this behaviour for this version then?

What would have been the purpose of the logo?

What even is "io"?
To answer my own question, this is radioio's logo.
But why is it there?
Good question... what LMS version are you using? RadioIO has been
removed from SB years ago. What is the logo's URL?

*RadioFeeds UK & Ireland..* an up-to-date radio directory for your
Squeezebox/Transporter/UE Smart Radio.. available from the
mysqueezebox.com App Gallery.
Bonus: our RadioFeeds
Just wondering what causes certain radio stations to default to a
green/black/white "io" logo when on the now playing screen.
Such examples (through the RadioFeeds plugin, at least) are:
JACK fm
JACK 2
JACK Radio
Union JACK Radio
(But oddly, not JACK 3).
