Is the version of softsqueeze bundled in slimserver 6.5.1 still 2.8 or a newer version (version 3)?
Does it work better with 6.5.1? Specifically, the two annoying problems I have with softsqueeze 2.8 in slimserver 6.3.1 are: When softsqueeze is on (and synched with my squeezebox 3), occasionally play stops altogether when a track is skipped. The fast forward and rewind buttons on the softsqueeze don't work at all (the display shows 2X, 4X, 8X, .. etc, but play continues at normal speed). If any of these are fixed it will make it worthwhile for me to upgrade.
