Is it possible to connect my laptop directly via a cable (a 10/100 i
belive its called) to a squeezebox 3?, ie without a router. Did try it
but the SB would not play...

Yes, in that case i would use a crossover Ethernet cable and assign
fixed ip's to both SB3 and the laptop, as there is no DHCP present.
If SC is installed and working AND all firewall problems are solved,
your good to go :)

Ahhh!, A crossover cable!. Thats prob where its all going wrong!
