I resoldered all the non-SMD pins (mainly connectors/vfd interface) and
i sanded the four sides of the uPC (first remove the square IC from its
PLCC socket off course)
I think the sanding caused my device to work again, but i can't really
tell because i did the soldering and sanding in one go.

Hi, I'm having similar problems with my slimp3, (instability,
connection to slim 6.5 occasional, sometimes long enough to play a bar
of music.
Any advice appreciated,
I've pinged the player with 256bytes drops a few, replies in 1 or 2ms
for a few then drops 3or so packets again.

I've solved the problem. I resoldered the PCB en sanded the pins of the
PIC uC. I think oxidation on the uC pins was the cause of the trouble.
So anyone with weird problems with a SLIMP3 pointing to defective HW
this is something to check!

I'm afraid it's a flaky player. I'm running no firewall locally. I was
using this forum as a last resort. Mayb someone has had the same
probs.. Apperently not.
I'll check the player on hardware level: Noise on powersupply. Cold
joints on the PCB. Bad connection on uC socket.

Could be a flaky player. My Slimp3 works fine using 6.22. I ran it for
a long time using 5.4.1, which was a nice, stable release.
