After a week or so of using ad-hoc, i have to say I'm quite happy with
it. It's only WEP security (not a problem for me as i live in the
country) and runs at 'b' 11Mbps, but i have had not problems with lag
and playback with large FLAC files has been perfect so far. Connects

For $12 this card may well be worth investigating. Lets your laptop
function as a wireless access point. Only 802.11b, but from what I've
read, I believe it does WPA.

Security in Ad-Hoc mode is limited to WEP as far as I can

I think one of the gotcha's is that adhoc networks are generally
limited to 11mbps (even 11g ones).
