I'll revive this old thread rather than start a new one. so I've put a
shortcut to my new drive in the folder that the SB looks for on my old
drive. the only thing is, it doesn't show up and won't rescan and find
the other 15000-something songs on the new drive. any ideas?

Please upload scanner.log after you've enabled debugging for scan.* options
(Settings/Advanced/Logging). Then run a scan.
What SC version?

sorry, I'm an idiot with this. I haven't had any problems at all until
I just got back from vacation. when I go to settings/adv/logging every
drop menu just says error except for server.memory which is off.
Don't know where to find the debug for scanning option. please advise.
This is one way to do it.
Creat a folder on your main drive (you could use the existing My Music
folder in My Documents if you liked) and then place shortcuts in it to
all the plcaes you music is held. If you have music on two other
drives, put in two shortcuts dirctly to those drives. You can

Shortcuts have been a part of the Windows OS for a long time. Also this
information can be found in the wiki. But maybe it should be written
into the set up program too.

On a Mac which I use, the nearest equivalent to a Windows shortcut is
an alias, which is easy to create. However, SS does not use aliases,
SC 7.0.1 now has support for aliases. Please give it a try.

That's good to know, as it does make things a lot easier for Mac
users.

I own 80GB external usb HDD,in distance future I will add another one,
I wonder how am I going to set the slimserver's music path if I store
my music in several Drive, 1 USB port is 1 drive right?

Just put a shortcut from the external disk to the music folder. SC will follow
it.
