Under normal circumstances, it should not overload the CPU for a night. I have about 10,000 tracks and that takes about 15-20 minutes for a full rescan from a cleared library. It depends on whether I'm running just a folder scan or adding in iTunes and MusicMagic scans on top. What can cause
