I had the same issue as this was a change in behaviour from 6.5.x to 7.x. Killie99 suggested using a tag editor like Tag Rename (as per this post: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44092) to set the compilation tag on all music files. The app provides a very useful batch function

Thanks for all your help. I can add the extra tag, but I don't really understand why it's necessary. Isn't it pretty clear that a group of songs that all have the same 'Album' tag but not the same 'Artist' tag should be listed under 'Various'? Amarok in KDE does it that way without any extra
