Any idea how this compares to the 16bit 44khz cd standard? (I have no
idea what bitrates mean).
CD is something like 1400kbps. MP3 and the like try to remove inaudible
parts of your songs before compressing the rest to get the reduced
bitrate. That's why these methods are called lossy.
Try this alternative stream:

But keep in mind that ogg can't be played natively by the player.

(I did test this on 2 different installations but not thoroughly enough
it would seem!)
Can you start the server with the --d_plugins option and see what
comes up in the log?

Compression makes sense for FM, where people usually listen in noisy
environments on crappy stereos (car, workplace etc) - it would be a
real shame if any internet stations are doing it!
