Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !
Hi everyone, I've had 2 Squeezeboxes (Boom) for a several months now and I absolutely love them. So far I've also been using SqueezeCommander for my Android phone (HTC Desire) and been pretty happy with it. Now a few days ago I won an iPad in a poker game :-) and while I didn't immediately see what I would be doing with that thing (I work from home, and don't travel a lot at the moment, and so far my phone was able to do anything I needed done when I'm out of the house) I've been determined to find practical uses for it, because well, now that I have the thing sitting there, you know? ;-) Along comes SqueezePad. Now THIS is really the first really practical use of the iPad I have been able to find and I'm already loving it. It's now sitting on my desk controlling and displaying the music I hear and it's simply beautiful. Don't get me wrong, the SqueezeController on my Desire is also lovely, but SqueezePad adds a whole new dimension. What I particularly like is the option to use the iPad as an extra player (through the in-App purchase) and then channelling the music to my living room HiFi through AirPort. So far I have only been able to control the music played there directly from my PC's iTunes (and even though my office is just next door from my living room, it's much easier just to take the iPad along now), so I can now actually control the music I hear in my living room from my sofa. SqueezePad's ability to act as a player might actually change the way I use my Squeezeboxes, because one of them is in my bedroom now and I only ever use it at night - in the future I might position that elsewhere and simply place an active speaker system in my bedroom that'll simply plug into the iPad at night. One small glitch I discovered today though - I tried synchronizing one of my Squeezeboxes and the SqueezePad player (played through AirPort) and a strange thing happened. For the duration of one song, the music was synchronous. When the next song started, the AirPort stream lagged behind about a second and a half. When I tried to re-synchronize, I got an error message (can't remember exactly what it said now I'm afraid) and the music stopped on both players. I realize that this is probably a technically very challenging use of the system and it's not that big a deal anyway, but it would be nice if the feature worked reliably, so I'm posting this here. In every other way, SqueezePad is practically perfect and it has made my new iPad actually worthwhile :-D Greetz from a fellow Berliner by the way ;-) -- andischatz andischatz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44078 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80553 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Looking for a SB Boom alternative / replacement
Just recently started playing with SqueezeServer after being a long time XBMC user, so far so good, the Squeeze handles music much better, although I still use XBMC from time to time. The one thing I have done recently was to add squeezeslave on my XBMC machine. XBMC is setup to use the HDMI connector for sound, and video, so I configured squeezeslave to use the headphone jack which is wired into my amp. Works a treat and I use the web interface to control it from my PC, iPeng on my iPhone, slim control on an old WM PDA I had lying around, and squeezePlay on a touch screen. Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !
Hi andischatz, thanks a lot for all these kind words! Want to see them on the AppStore as well :D Synchronization and then streaming via AirPort - wow - interesting use case indeed. I do have one user reporting delays of about one second when trying to synchronize and stream via AirPlay. The reason for this is that SqueezePad hands the synchronized music over to the iPad (which would be fine if the sound would be played directly via the speaker) ... but all delays that are introduced afterwards because of AirPlay cannot be handled (as SqueezePad doesn't even know that there might be delays). If the delay via AirPlay is constant one can use some server settings: Web-Interface-Settings-Player-SqueezePad Player-Synchronisation - 'Audio Delay'. This is the option for delays introduced by external gear. Now you say that the delay changed from one to the other song. Really strange ... Could you check if both songs have the the same file format? Maybe the iPad handles different music formats different, when AirPlay is used? If this is the case, you could force the server to always send the same format (Web-Interface - Settings - Advanced - File Formats). If you see the error message again, don't hesitate to contact support (you can make a screenshot by the way by just hitting the power and home button of the iPad at the same time - it's then in your photo gallery - easy thing to do if you don't want to write anything down). -- bluegaspode Big Screen for great Boxes available now at your AppStore: *'Squeezebox + iPad = SqueezePad ' (www.squeezepad.com)* - -now featuring streaming to iPad!- Want to see a Weather Forecast on your Radio/Touch/Controller ? = why not try my 'Weather Forecast Applet' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73827) Want to use the Headphones with your Controller ? = why not try my 'Headphone Switcher Applet' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67139) Setup: 1x SB-Controller+Receiver (Duet), 1xSB-Boom. 2xSB-Radio Server (7.5.x) running on SheevaPlug (Ubuntu) with attached Western Digital MyBook Essential. bluegaspode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31651 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80553 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android
Can any of the SqueezeCommander users please tell me whether the music files downloaded from the server via SC keep their tags, at least Title/Artist/Album Artist? That isn't the case for SqueezeControl, and as music download would be a function I use pretty often, that's the last question that keeps me from buying. Thanks :) -- maniac103 maniac103's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=42191 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69352 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Works like a charm...so far as I know the file is untouched (also includes embedded album art in the tag). -- hunta hunta's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=333 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69352 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
